We’re having fun over on the YIR-FORUM with “ASSKICKING AVATARS.” Nows a good time to get yourself in there (registered) and use your own asskicking avatar. LINKY DINKY DOO! — (buncha hardasses in there!

It’s been a good feeling couple of days for me. I’ve been reinvigorated or re-energized feeling lately. Getting SO much work done. Yesterday, I did art on the HBN webcomic, this here webcomic, AND penciled two pages for Hero By Night #2. On Monday, I penciled 3 pages. And I plan on inking up a whole bunch this week as well to get ahead of the game there.
It just feels really good to be productive.
And wow… That KISS COMICS GROUP news is everywhere! It’s nuts. It’s just nuts. You know, I’ve never really been into KISS as a fan, although I have two friends who are really into them, one is on the forum, Adam Black, and the other guy is Todd Shulek who is a painter who went to the Kubert school. THAT guy eats and drinks KISS stuff. The reason I bring them up is…. Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley and Scott Rosenberg did a phone interview with Jonah at Comic Book Resources and I was reminded of how much Gene Simmons LOVES comics…. here’s a quote from the article:
Whatever happened to those million plus people who used to buy comic books? What the fuck has happened to this thing that we love, this American born invention called comic books and specifically super heroes, which is purely an American art form? And art form is the correct way to describe it. Comic books have long stayed in the shadows and the reason we’re all very excited about doing the biggest comic book of all time, period, is simply because we’re proud of the content, but we also understand we have to grab media by the scruff of its neck and say, “Pay attention, comics aren’t just kids stuff.” That’s what we’re aiming to do together with Platinum.
I want to add something here about the comics market, if I may. Not just you guys or the conventions or whatever, but we better start looking at this thing of ours, and it is ours, this American thing called a comic book, as a bigger idea and we’ve got to stop just preaching to the converted. There’s a bigger world out there with brand new fans that can come in and start reading their favorite comic books and it doesn’t matter which company they start with. We should be supporting the comic book industry as a whole first and foremost as an art medium.
THAT is what I’ve been talking about for years now. Now I’m not as nervous about possibly meeting Gene at show, because he said it right there. While he mentions comics aren’t just kids stuff, which I agree… I also come from the point of view that, well, we need younger kids to read comics again. NEW KIDS. Not just the kids of grown men who already collect comics. We need to jump out of that box. Everytime I sit down to work on Hero By Night, THAT is what I’m thinking. Just the opportunity to get it into new hands. You know??? — I mean, hell, if I have to , I’ll revolutionize the whole thing myself. But it’s great to be working with people who are forward thinking like Platinum. Here’s hoping Gene can champion comic books more in public, he’d be a great spokesperson for it, with all his knowledge on the subject, etc.
Ok, enough geeky comic book talk. I have to go draw more… or be beaten!

Ditto. Frank Miller just won a major award on national TV recently. (I forget which award, I have the publication at home)
We’re getting there, I think.
