WORLD CHAMPION PITTSBURGH STEELERS!

WORLD CHAMPS!

You know, I’m at a loss for words. I know you might think it’s only football, but I guess you’d have to be from this area to understand how awesome this is right now.

  1. Schroddfather Says:

Dude, I was raised in Boston. We know.

  2. Erik Says:

You know, I was originally going to ask you to run the comic that would have gone up if the Seahawks had won. Then I came to my senses and beat myself with rocks for being a non-believer. GO STEELERS!

I live in Michigan. We’re still waiting for our miracle.

  3. Blue Eagle Says:

    Success.

  4. Guy Says:

How can you be world champs by winning a tournament in which only American teams can take part?

  5. Jacob Bond Says:

Okay Coffman, you got your Super Bowl, so now put that thumb to use on the Chiefs. They haven’t been to one since Super Bowl IV, after all. :)

  6. DJ Says:

    Don’t be a dick, Guy.

    STEELERS!

  7. vilmar Says:

Why is Guy a dick? Because he spoke the truth? Great for Pittsburg, blah, blah but I think it is disingenuous to call it a “world championship” when only one country was involved. Same thing with baseball.

  8. DJ Says:

Hey, last time I checked, asswipes, I don’t see other cities with their own Football teams clamoring to get in the NFL–

Way to come in and crap on a good feeling here guys! No matter though, the Steelers are World Champions.

  9. Thomas Says:

Aww, don’t listen to them! I know that they are the REAL world champions!

  10. Andrew Says:

Canadian Football is better. bigger balls and only 3 downs.

  11. Jerry Says:

Good on the Steelers. I know the feeling you’re talking about, that’d be like the Bengals or the Browns making it to the Super Bowl again. I think I’d everyones brains would melt inside their skull if they made it, and I’m afraid to think about what’d happen if they actually won.

As for the guys bitching about the world champs, screw it. They tried having a world league and it turned out…well, less than admirable. US Players were scattered all over the globe in the off season and most countries got killed because 125lb guys aren’t used to being hit by a 300lb wall of US grade A linebacker. Shit happens, it’s called Life.

  12. Paul Southworth Says:

Man, imagine how fans of the Seahawks would have felt :)

  13. zanbowser Says:

Gratz, DJ… glad you’re happy for the win. Trish and I were rooting for the Seahawks (she hates the Steelers), but I held a silent hope for your team to pull it out. They really seemed to want it more than Hasselbeck (sp?) and his team.

She did have some nice things to say (she’s not an hateful person by nature - even when football’s concerned ^_^) about Bill Cower (sp?) showing some emotion for once, and also about that Polumalu (sp?) being a fantastic player.

For the first Superbowl I’ve ever watched (for anything but the commercials - which weren’t all that special this year, by the way), I had a pretty fun night.

Now, if you can come out of the “They Won” coma long enough to draw the Cobra getting even with the ad-men who crapped up this year’s best commercial-watching, that’d be grand. ^_~

  14. Kirby Says:

    Congratulations Steelers!

It was a team of destiny. Everyone was rooting for the Steelers to win.

    Including the officials.

  15. DJ Says:

    Yeah Yeah….

Let’s make it clear. That was touchdown by Roethlisberger. Anyone with video, you can see that when he was in the air, the ball broke the line then got pushed back– and it’s the forward progress of the ball– the line judge threw up his arms as soon as he saw the ball cross break the line.

Had the Steelers lost, I would have totally complained about the THREE fumbles that the Hawks had which were recovered by Steelers…

  17. pseudosanity78 Says:

Yay, your team won…good on you mate!

Can I have my baseball back now?

  18. belefauntes Says:

Congrats, DJ. I was rootin for the Hawks, but I think both teams deserved it. I can’t help but feel the ref had it out for my birds, though. It was like Detroit could do no wrong, but Seattle could ONLY do wrong. I mean, I’m no fan (this was my first SuperBowl at age 31), but the first TD should’ve been the Hawks, and there were several other calls that I thought were questionable at best. Still, it was a fun game to watch. Kudos to you and your boys!

  19. RichK Says:

Congrats DJ. It wasn’t a classic game (dropped passes, overthrows, bad penalties on both sides) but it had its moments. I hope your thumb can flex.

And Vilmar, Toronto is in Canada so it’s a World Series.

  20. cj Says:

I think it was the diaper that did it. Of course being a lifelong Eagles fan now living in Denver I have to worry about TO screwing up this team too….

At least there is arena football… Go Crush!

  21. Jeege Says:

Congrats to all LOYAL Steeler fans. That was a fun one to watch.

Now if only my Vikes can bring home one o’ those fine looking WORLD championship trophies.

Hey, if the rest of the world wants to take a shot at football, I say let em try. It would be fun to watch a “Dream Team” kind of demolishment of every little team that europeans put together. The reason that its called a world championship is because these are the best teams in the world. Yes…that is because the rest of the world doesn’t have teams…if they had them, they would be welcome. So make some teams if you want to!

    Congrats DJ and Steeler fans!

  22. Minion of W Says:

Yeah. Don’t talk shit about baseball not being in other countrys either. Its really popular in japan, and some south american countrys. Probably other places too, but I can’t think of any ;-)

  23. Ray Cornwall Says:

On the one hand, sorry, DJ, it wasn’t a touchdown. The call should not have been made on the field.

But on the other hand, even without the TD, the Steelers outscored the Seahawks, and really played better as the game went on. If the Seahawks had executed better, maybe the game could be argued, but there’s no doubt in my mind the better team won.

Congratulations, DJ. Maybe next year my beloved Eagles will get one.

One question- isn’t a ring on your thumb kind of awkward? :)

  24. DameSuburbia Says:

    HELL YES STEELERS!!!

I am severly disappointed there were no riots, however. I live 20 minutes away from the ‘burgh and we were all pretty sure that the city would be in flames within an hour after the game.

did you know they renamed Washington PA to Steelers PA? Its just an honorary thing lasting from the championship game two weeks ago and the Superbowl, but it certainly proves that Steelers fans are the closest thing America has to soccer hooligans…

  25. Will Says:

all baltimore did for the ravens when they won was rename the street outside their training camp ‘ravens boulevard’ for like a month.

the street was right by my house so i could see this big fucking purple sign from my window.

The worst part was, the good ol’ baltimore fans DID riot that year, and they had this huge mob right outside the camp. You did NOT want to drive down ravens boulevard that day.

and of course the day after there was trash EVERYWHERE. nastiness.

  26. Charybdis Says:

Actually I’d like to see an American Football ‘dream team’ play against the NZ All Black rugby team, all 6′4″ 200kg’ish. Gigantic guys. I’m Aussie so I prefer Aussie Rules (which is where you guys hire your best kickers from btw :P), but watching Rugby teams vs NFL would be amusing.

  27. Geoffrey Says:

You guys are acting likes the Steelers really “pulled it through” and became some kind of miracle children or something.

The Seahawks have never won a superbowl! Stop complaining about these long droughts without wins when there are teams out there who’ve never even won once in their entire history! You guys are like Chicago fans “Oh my God, I hate that the Cubs haven’t won a world series in such a long time.”

Fuck you guys, the Devil Rays have NEVER EVEN BEEN TO THE WORLD SERIES! Take your bitching away from me, because I’m not hearing it.

  28. Charlie Taylor Says:

    The Devil Whos?

Seriously though, Cubs fans (like myself) bitch about not winning a world-series since 1908 because we’ve been so bloody close so many times, and we’ve had some damn good players. Yet every year it somehow it slips right out of our hands every year.

  29. Nickle Says:

Yes…the steelers won, congratulations. I was rooting for the hawks, and they didnt win, first time to the superbowl in franchise history…to the guy who said that business about the Devil Rays….how LONG have the Devil rays been a team…like what..12 years maybe if that? This was the seahawks first time in franchise history…or 30 years I believe. Secondly, if I wasnt ALIVE to witness my favorite team to go to the championship game, I am gonna bitch until I see it. Sorry the D rays suck, bitch some more, might help. Anywho DJ glad you got to see your team win one.

  30. Eric Poole Says:

I am gonna back DJ’s call that Big Ben scored on that touchdown. I am gonna take it a step further and argue the other ‘calls’ that Seahawks fans (and the retarded ‘Boston’ media) are complaining about:

-Jackson’s Offensive Pass Interference in the endzone. Hmm…looks like the receiver pushed off to me. I know people are saying “but they NEVER call offensive PI’, but guess what, if no one ever calls it then it wouldn’t be a penalty. HE PUSHED OFF, IT IS A PENALTY NO MATTER HOW ‘OFTEN’ THE REFS CALL IT!!!.

-The holding call on the OL #75 for the Seahawks that negated a pass play to the Steelers 1 yd line. Okay, this one baffles me how people can bitch about it. The O-Lineman had his arm collared around Haggans! (pretty sure it was Haggans) WHAT AM I MISSING??? HOW IS THAT NOT HOLDING? His arms were outside the linebackers shoulders, around the dudes neck. That is holding.

-The Personal Foul call on Hasselbeck after his INT. This was a horrible call, but regardless, it wouldn’t have affected the Interception.

I don’t get it. People seem to forget that the Steelers had an assload of calls go against them vs. Indianapolis and yet they still won the game. I won’t argue that the refs were spotty, but come on, don’t say this Steelers victory was tainted. The Seahawks did enough on their own to lose this game. Don’t take away what the Steelers did because of the refs.

Whew, I feel better for ranting

    It’s a Burgh thing…Yinz Wouldn’t Understand.
