WEBCOMICS SMACK TALK!!!

On Scott Kurtz’s main page today he writes pertaining to the big World of Warcraft guilds they have and the WAR they have going on:

From Gabe’s comments over at Penny-Arcade today.

“Well I finally hit 40 a couple nights ago and I got my mount. I see Kurtz hit 60 a little while ago, congratulations. Maybe if my strip was in black and white I’d be 60 as well ;)”

I could color my strips all the time too if I only had to do them three times a week and I didn’t have to worry about writing them myself. Sounds like someone’s feeling that “alliance jealousy” that’s so prevalent on Dark Iron. :)

NEWSFLASH, SLACKERS! Yirmumah is updated 5 times a week, in FULL COLOR, and I actually DRAW the fucking comic, not just cut and paste all the time! AND I play World of Warcraft! And I have kids! And a ton of other stuff to do! Excuse, exshmooses! hahahah

Of course, if I did only do black and white strips, I guess I wouldn’t only have a level 23 rogue on Dark Spear. :) And you know what! My guild is all of… well… uhmI don’t have a guild but I do have 8 people on a guild charter! SO TAKE THAT!!!!

Damn right DJ, props to the hand drawns and colour… The only thing those guys can do better than you is “suck and die!” Tell them to eat a brick and be done with it.

  2. teknik Says:

Yes DJ. To rip off PA, your comic wins with easy.

And we could have a guild if you were online at the same time as me! Like tonight for instance.. :D

  3. Evan Skibin Says:

    I love web comic drama.

  4. Karakma Says:

he was just joking around? i hope you’re not that serious…jeez creating drama an awful lot yourself arent you 50 cent?

  5. Neil Says:

That ‘i have kids’ comment alone should get people to realise how little time you have to work on the comic :P

  6. DJ Says:

Wow! Looks like Karakma can’t take a joke!

    I mean, COME ON!!! I’m a level 23 rogue for god’s sake!!!! (almost 24)

  7. zanbowser Says:

don’t worry, DJ; Karakma is probably just venting her own pent up jealousy that she can’t get her L11 Priest levelled because she’s been busy practicing for her drag show (and can’t confide in anyone that her show isn’t going as well as she hoped either).

is it proper to refer to transvestites by their alternate gender? Karakma, do you have an answer for us; the inquiring minds?

  8. chadvavra Says:

    you all officially scare me.

    Not on the internet either.

    Real-life, scared of you.

  9. Darren Says:

    Your fear smells like candy.

  10. Karakma Says:

when referencing to a drag queen it’s proper to refer to them as the sex they’re portraying. For example if i was to dress as a woman (since i am a male) then you would refer to me as; She, her, maam, ms, however while i’m dressed as a male you should refer to me as a him. I hope that’s all cleared up.

The only reason i said what i said is becasue i’m not too sure if DJ was serious. I really like the yirmumah comic, and i hate to see it get slandered to a degree where he takes it too seriously. Look what happened to squidi.net after he pissed off the people over at PA.

  11. DJ Says:

Ah, no worries… Tycho reads our strip, and we’re friendly and have exchanged e-mails…. and K-Diddy totally knows I’m messing around.

I’ll never take it TOO seriously. Who’s squidy??

  12. RGE Says:

Squidy is Squidi, where were you that year?

He took his copyright so seriously that when Tubesteak Samurai did customized avatars out of Squidi’s pixel art designs, it eventually led to Squidi sending a poorly worded mail (or poorly veiled legal threat, depending on who you ask) to Penny Arcade, since it was on their forums the avatars were being used. This led to Squidi.net being stomped by PA fans, and apparently Squidi earned a very bad reputation in webcomic circles.

The PA art forum people at the time concluded that Squidi should have known better than to come to them with some sort of serious business like a complaint. All he did at the very beginning was to mention where the pixel art designs came from, and linked to his comic, but noble defenders quickly stepped up to shield their beloved avatar maker from such slights against his originality. I know that because I actually got my feet wet while wading through most of those posts.

For an extra dose of irony, Kurtz once made a strip (or even a short storyline) where Francis attempts to copyright individual pixels, and Squidi took that as a jab at his copyright policy. And perhaps he was right, because Kurtz did visit Squidi’s forum and posted once (”You want to discuss copyright? Ok, let’s discuss!” or something like that), which led to a predictible flamewar between fans, with no actual discussion between Squidi and Kurtz. Anyhow, Kurtz later complained about the very same Tubesteak Samurai copying character designs out of PvP comics, such as a fantasyversion of Trent, the head of Jade (on a halfling-type character), and Skull, albeit as a teamster fairy (blue and bigbellied - I thought it was a hilarious joke on Kurtz’ copyright when I saw it).

So, for anyone who didn’t know and who for some reason would go back and read these comments, that’s who Squidi is and why he’s infamous.

  13. ERic Says:

    Gabe has a kid too.
    FYI

  14. ERic Says:

The whole Squidi thing was crazy, I could not side with him at all, Ive done pixel art waaaayyy before I even heard of his site. The similarities were vague but it wasn’t a direct ripoff. I think he really hurt himself more then he got out of it.

  15. DJ Says:

One kid? BAH! Try three times that!!!!

  16. Tom Says:

Hand-drawn is where it’s at. Each strip is a little, unique work of art.
