The New Hero Ring!!!
WOW! After I won that competition and in doing so, wore Zach Miller’s “Caution Dangerous When Awesome” while delivering my winning pitch, Zach told me he had a friend who makes real rings and he was going to have one made for me. That was back in August…. well, it arrived today and it’s AWESOME.
Zach Miller is now my new favorite person on the planet. Ironically, I just got done inking the “forging” scene of issue one of the print book. I laid a print out of the page under the photos below as a sneak peak.

Here’s a shot of the old and new ring side by side. Pretty fitting for the story as well, seeing as how the webcomic is about the old hero from the 40s and 50s and the comic book will be about the new hero. It’s like past and present right in front of me!

Inscribed inside the ring is “Hero By Night” — Sorry, the ring is upside down in this pic…

My kids are off of school today, and as soon as I showed them this new and improved ring they were all crying that they want one made for them now. Hah! Hopefully when the HBN franchise takes off, every adventurous kid in country can have their own version… what a simple and awesomely imaginative toy. When I hear the kids get all excited over the ring or the hero story, it really energizes me! I let my kids all hold it once but now it’s on my hand as I go off to work on my pencils which are due Wednesday.
Giant thanks to Zach, (and to whomever made this ring)… They may not even know it, but they just became part of history in the making. *wink!*
Back to the drawing board. What an awesome mail day.

I would definitely sport the Hero ring. I’ll be looking for that one in toy stores and comic shops pretty soon, man.

DAMN.
Where can I get one of those rings? It’d be residing on the index finger of my right hand next to my Gramp’s Claddah Ring right now if I knew how to make these things. That is nifty and spiffy as heck at the same time.
I just hope that they don’t mass produce the things out of a factory someday. It’d be a disgrace to the ring and the idea behind it. You don’t just go and mass produce heroes, so why should you go and mass produce the ring? DJ, if given the opprotunity to do this, PLEASE turn it down. Trust me, it’s a better thing to have a smaller amount of quality items than to have some cookie-cutter ring that sells for $50 each.

Hopefully it will become the ’secret decoder ring’ of the next few generations.
