Someone e-mailed this to me, and between my working deadline here today I thought I’d take issue with it. Apparently a retailer named Steve Bennett has a thoughtful column at ICv2, HERE. - In that particular article he goes on to talk about how online comics may effect print comics, and names Platinum Studios as someone who has a good handle on the future of comic books and the internet…. but, he goes on to say that Platinum doesn’t pay upfront, and that they don’t pay for any of their webcomics. This was then also quoted on Newsarama.

What he said isn’t true. While Platinum has TONS of projects, and I’m sure quite a few of them are in the regard of “representing” the creators and not in full production, I can assure Steve Bennett that not only does Platinum pay me for my work on the book I’m doing, but they also are compensating me for the work on the Hero By Night webcomic.

Now, this might not be the case for every creator working with Platinum currently or represented by them, remember, Platinum OWNS Hero By Night. They bought it from me.

Anyway, I’m sure it’s just an error on Mr. Bennett’s side. And I’ve tried to send him an e-mail to be forwarded to him because I can’t find any e-mail of his own online— but in the future, anyone wondering about Platinum, for the love of god, don’t speculate or guess, just e-mail their communications guy, Dan Forcey. Look here’s his e-mail “dan.forcey@platinumstudios.com” . And hell, if you want to talk to them or setup an interview, just ask them.

Sorry, just a little frustrated on those points when I’m working very hard on my own deadlines and see mentions of a company I’m working for not paying. It kinda irks me a little.

On another note, and I assume I cannot mention it publicly yet even though no one has said I couldn’t, but Platinum has brought on a new Editor in Chief, the name I will not say, but it’s a pretty big name I think, at least in my opinion, but I assume that news will break on that end later on, right now we’re all rolling up our sleeves and working hard to make the Platinum Comics line kick some ass and take some names. Things are REALLY coming to shape on that end of things behind the scenes. Previews ads coming together, etc etc…. Not to mention I’m penciling page 11 of issue one right now which id due today to said editor, so I’m getting back to work now.

At least the retailer guy did get one thing right at least… he has seen the future of comics.
