Sweeps Week: Llama Fact

I changed the joke I had written initially to give a tip of the hat to Club Member and longtime reader, Adam Black because he’s wanted to see Paris HIlton set on fire for some time. That one’s for you, Adam!
It’s been awhile… let me put in a good YIRBLOG! For old time’s sake….
A reminder quickly, ORIGINAL COVER ART for issue three on ebay. Bidding starts at 100. Also, I’ve had some folks who want me to do original pinups and the like for sale on the site, we’ll see. It’s all a matter of finding the time to manage everything, right now, Ebay is sort of a fluke thing I do from time to time. RichK suggested that I sell prints like Shortpacked does. I’ve actually thought about doing something like that for some time, but again, it’s a matter of time. If i did, they’d be extremely limited prints, like 20 numbered copies a thing or something. Gotta keep those bills paid, right?
Springtime in Fayette-Nam:
I’ve been steering clear of the internet and spending more time “offline” lately. I think I’m growing a little, as you wouldn’t believe the amount of DRAMA that’s going on and I’ve been e-mailed about, but frankly, I just don’t give a shit. If it doesn’t directly effect YIRMUMAH or Yirm’s readers, I could really care less right now. Maybe it’s the weather??? This is the first year in a long time that I haven’t let the changing of the seasons escape my attention. Everything is growing here in Fayette-Nam– I find myself driving and staring at the crazy colored trees in people’s yards, with the neon purple like leaves… CRAZY. Must be the artist in me, you have to stop and observe sometimes, usually I observe the media and people, but observing nature is interesting. I’ve spent so much time complaining about this crappy area, I’ve forgotten how awesome it is as well. I have the Youghiogheny river and hike/bike trail within spitting distance of me here, and I feel like I’ve possibly neglected that.
Last night, I found myself searching around online for info on the Yough trail and rediscovered all sorts of information about this area that I live in, and now own land in, and it’s amazing. Items of note..
-the area right down the river from my house was once known as “Dante’s INferno” because the old coke ovens on the hillsides would burn at night, reflect off the water and make it look like a river of fire. That, or this REALLY is hell.
- When I was kid in Connellsville, we’d always joke around about the river being cursed, haunted, etc. Also, at Youghiogheny river park, there’s Crawford’s Cabin, where Colonel Crawford lived. Famous from the French and Indian War, he was, at the age of 50, burned and scalped at the stake by indians! We use to think when we were kids, he was burned right over by his cabin… this is not so, he was talked into leading up a group of soldiers to go off into Ohio to fight some indians there, and THAT is where he was burned alive at the stake. There are historical markers where he was burned up. Yeesh.
- At one point in time, there were more millionaires living in Fayette County PA then ANY place in the country! You would totally not know that by looking around here today though. Toothless welfare bum hitchhikers abound though! Funny though, that the boomtown of Connellsville died out after the big coal days.. and now all that’s left is the history that no one really gives a crap about.
Anyway, yeah, Fayette County has a TON of history to it, from significant events in the French and Indian War, Revolutionary War– I mean, when you’re a kid growing up here, you hear adults talk about this crap all the time and it’s hammered into your heads but you still think… “So??” I mean, generally, this area still SUCKS. As you actually become an adult and learn the history and relearn it, I guess it is kinda cool. I mean, how funny is it that George Washington was all over this place, maybe even walked on the same ground that I now draw tapdancing asses on the internet on. We’ve come a long way, baby!
One last note on Fayette County– there are these retarded looking signs here when you come in and out on the major roads… we always laugh at it here, it’s Marquis de Lafayette, an important historical figure to whom the county is named after, but it looks like he’s molesting or dry humping the damn sign… AND up close, he has a CREEPY freaking look on his face. Here’s one shot i found online, If i ever have time, I’ll go take close up photos for fun.

Ok, one LAST little funny story I found about LaFayette… He wanted to invade Canada. For real… look it up online somewhere. Actually, HERE’s a brief history of Fayette County, PA for anyone who might be bored.
On The Boob Tube:
Wow, LOST last night was something else? The weird website for the Hanso foundation is cool. If you type in “broken strain” on the monkey’s webcam page the site goes all crazy. “Lost” is just becoming better by the episode now. I won’t spoil it for anyone.

My perfect Fayette-Nam springtime trip. Spend the morning wandering around the property at Falling Water, here you can see great architecture, lovely landscapes, and at the visitor’s center is the best public restroom I have ever seen.
For lunch hit The Lone Star. It is just south of Farmington on Rt 40. Hot roast beef with mashed potatoes and a strawberry shake was always my favorite.
In the afternoon you can roll up rt 40 and hit the huge flea market at Braddoc’s Grave.(or is this only in the summer?) Junk galore and cheap to boot. if shopping is not your cup of tea, just look at the people working the booths…they can be more interesting than their stuff.
Now for dinner, back down Rt 40 to Glissen’s for a small dinner, but save room for pie and coffee, that is the best reason to go there. Take a spare pie home with you(maybe a spare spare if no one is looking) to enjoy later.
By now it is dark, so your choices are the bars or Walmart. I personally go for Walmart in Uniontown…open 24 hours and the people watching continues
Wow…that got off topic
Take Care,

Just curious, why spoil Harry Potter but not Lost?
May 4th, 2006 at 5:20 am
because most lost fans are already a tad mentally unbalanced because of the show, you just can’t tell how they’ll react

Hey Sandy,
Why whinge on about something that happened almost a year ago?
Lost fans are crazy about the show enough that if they WANT spoilers, there’s plenty of places to find them. And it’s also the type of show that can’t really be spoiled in the truest sense, because that’s just the nature of the show.

About the spoiler thing… I’m a hypocrite and if it’s something “I” like, I won’t spoil it for other viewers who like said thing… Harry Potter fans who are disgruntled at me over what I did, should go suck on an ass. I mean, CMON…the WHOLE internet is a giant spoiler to everything… Also, I just said DUMBLEDORE DIES… which wasnt THAT bad of a spoiler… I can think of better ones like SNAPE KILLS DUMBLEDORE….
Besides, everyone knows Dumbledore isn’t REALLY dead.
Besides, I don’t mind being spoiled– hell, I login to sites like lost-media.com just to dig for things on upcoming shows.

You’d be surprised how affluent Western PA was back in the day. My hometown of Johnstown was boomin’ during the big coal mine, steel mill days. Now it’s a ghost town! On the nature side, nothing beats Western PA in the Spring and Fall. I miss it sometimes.

You do requests, DJ? Damn, I’ll have to think of one!
(But it’ll be hard to top Paris there. Burn baby burn.)
Also, YES please, get some close ups of the creepy guy! I love taking pictures of odd or disturbing statuary and signs whenever I can. The prize of my collection is a piece of metal art at the Puyallup train station: is it a mutant chicken, or a slightly surreal sculpture of the bones of the ear? You decide … if you dare!

What am I supposed to see?
