Sucks to be Danish.

Poor Svend. He should have thought it through a little more though, you know? A Yirmumah insider tip… when you see Smokey the Sheik, it’s usually because I love him as a character and always think of interjecting him in the strip but he often misses out. This was the PERFECT time for him to pop up and make an appearance.
So, did you hear about Iran? Yeah, I guess all the protesting and burning things isn’t enough, so they’re going to actually publish holocaust cartoons in their paper and hold a contest of some sort– READ HERE. — So much for that whole turn the other cheek thing. I mean, we get it Iran, you hate the Jews. You’re probably going to blow up Israel when you get Nuclear missiles, just like the old Nostradamus movie from the 80s predicted. You know, the one with the guy with the freaky blue turbin??? yeah. That one… and rivers of lava and all that. Scared the crap out of me when I was a kid.
God, this world is so EFHED UP.
But hey, forget the world– we have good news by way of a new Monthly Sponsor! GEEK TRAGEDY, a great little webcomic celebrating recently just over 100 strips, for your perusal or ganderings. Go there and be merry!
In fact, I think all the monthly sponsor spots are filled up right now– a big thank you to all the new Sponsors and all the great returning sponsor folk. I’m super glad you guys find value in advertising here with us. ROCK ON, Sponsor people. ROCK ON.

You know, it is good to see that religious fanatics the world over have their priorities straight.
OF COURSE God/Allah/Yahweh/Cthulu/Etc. wants you to kill people over a cartoon. Haven’t you ever read any religious texts? It’s practiaclly the base tenet of all organised religion! Heavan awaits all those who can recognise some ink on paper for its true nature… THE DEATH OF ALL OUR INNOCENT CHILDREN.
Now get out there and slay ‘em!

I agree, this is a crazy world. I try and try to understand the muslim’s view, because I want to respect it, just like I would like other people to respect my views. But I just don’t understand how you can demand enforcement of your believes on another culture and call it a sane action.
And now that the mob mentality is set, the sanity will only diminish.

Capital N for nuclear? I see having thirty thousand of the things still hasn’t cheapened them for you. (americans that is)
February 7th, 2006 at 8:36 am
Hey.. seperate the citizens from the government, please. I have absolutely no nuclear missiles.
Thanks!
February 7th, 2006 at 9:12 am
Hmm, I found today’s cartoon rather funny
And I am even Danish … and take a look: my site has not been hacked by lousy Middle Eastern haxx0rs with English spelling skillz0rz as evil as any I’ve met.
I love Smokey, I love Yirmumah, but fanatic Moslems don’t do it for me right now - as if they ever did anything for me!
Keep ‘em coming, Drew! Keep ‘Em Coming!

For the record I’m not a Bush or pro-war guy.
Escobar,
The US and Europe have too much at stake to nuke the planet.
If you think that “Ayatollah Strangelove” won’t threaten to bomb his sworn religious enemies, then I guess “N” for you is for naïve
February 7th, 2006 at 9:28 am
Ulrik! — Man, you’re the second person I know from Denmark– we have a reader who pops in named Svend too. Never in a million years did I think that the Danish would be responsible for extremists or radical mulsims torching stuff and boycotting Denmark.
This world is DEFINITLY stranger than fiction, eh?
February 7th, 2006 at 10:06 am
If I were Israel, I would publish those Holocaust cartoons in every single paper. What better way to say “fuck you” to Iran than by taking their childish reprisal and turning it on its head. Am I the only person here who thinks that maybe, just maybe, we could be looking at the opening shots of what becomes the next World War?
February 7th, 2006 at 10:50 am
I hate to break it to you, Eric, but we’ve been in WWIII since September 11th– they just never officially announced it yet.
But yeah, it would take fucking CARTOONS to officially launch a world war.

*throws up the horns and continues to rock on*
I only do it though, because of Smokey the Shiek.
February 7th, 2006 at 7:43 pm
And if you take a look at the cartoons, your reaction may be (as mine was), “That’s it? That’s why these people are getting upset?”
Second thing, is that these cartoons were printed in Jyllands Posten in September of last year. Four freaking months. They’re not just religious fanatics, they’re _slow_ religious fanatics.
I recently found this site through a search for Steelers-related stuff. Good comic!

Sorry to be all doomsayerish and all, but…
If a nuclear war does break out, i think the US will most likely start it. They are the only country to have already used nuclear weapons, and when oil starts to run out, everyone is going to be pretty desperate, especially the country that uses the most of it. Oh, and DJ, if you didn’t vote for a presidential candidate that promised or you thought would start dismantling your nuclear warheads, you pretty much have a part share in them.
Sorry to get away from the comic and stuff but just the hypocrisy of sort of holding the world to ransom with “weapons of mass destruction”, really pisses me off.
February 8th, 2006 at 1:21 am
Escobar, I agree with most of that, except for a few things. No, the US will not start a nuclear war. At least not in the effect that we, as a country, will fire the first nuclear weapon in a war. It would make no sense. The only thing, from an American Political perspective, that launching a nuclear weapon would achieve for us would be the massive backlash of every country in the world in hatred of us.
What does that gain a country? Not a damn thing.
And, as for your political statement in regards to DJ, you have to understand, American nuclear weapon dismantling is not a common issue in US Politics, especially not on the level of presidential campaigning. And since there is never a platform based or affiliated with national nuclear holdings, you can’t say something like that. I mean, that’s the thing about a Republic, yes, we elect officials, but we can only elect those that run.
And on the note of who run, only a presidential level, we don’t so much choose the candidates as the Democrat and Republican parties do. They choose who to back, who to support for office, and it’s left to us to choose between the two. For, while we have independant parties, let’s be real, they aren’t going to get elected president, at least not for a long time, so it’s really a “lesser of the evils” decision, and our nuclear weapons don’t enter into that debate, because all involved choose not to let it.
And even then, let’s say you examine the candidates respective voting histories, etc etc, and find that the one you were going to vote for has supported nuclear weapons and been against dismantling our current stock. But, he has a good plan to reform Medicare, Social Security, etc etc, a better one than the other candidate, who may be neutral or even against nuclear weapons and have lobbied for dismantlement in his history.
What would you choose then? Should you vote for the person who is anti-nuclear, and might, I repeat, MIGHT, turn it into an issue during their presidency, or the person who has run on a platform of reforming our broken systems?
February 8th, 2006 at 2:11 am
Murch, you’re very diplomatic. I respect that. I don’t feel like doing the same, however.
>>>If a nuclear war does break out, i think the US will most likely start it. They are the only country to have already used nuclear weapons, and when oil starts to run out, everyone is going to be pretty desperate
February 8th, 2006 at 2:14 am
Huh, the blog read my separator as html. Here’s the rest.
————————————
Pardon me, Escobar, but you’re fucking high. The US is hardly “desperate.” Our economy and our technology are the envy of the world. Shit, the computer you typed that on was made with US research, and the internet was completely created by the US.
As for nukes, we used nuclear weapons to forestall the need for an invasion on the Japanese mainland, with an estimated millions dead. And we wouldn’t have used the second one if they’d surrendered.
As for oil, we’re already researching substitutes. It’s simple supply and demand. When the price is high enough, it’s worth money to create substitutes. We’ll use our technological knowhow to make substitutes. As for the middle east, it’ll be even worse off when its economy collapses for lack of a saleable product. But the US will be doing just fine.
February 8th, 2006 at 3:41 am
Hmmm.. I’d go easy on the patriottism, Schroddfather. I think you’ll find that on the inside, that “US” PC runs on quite a bit of european research , and asian manufacturing capacity..
As for nukes, contrary to US opinion, the french do not have a yellow streak, and they do make their own . And they’ve got a rather short fuse, since they haven’t got plenty of miles of ocean between the hotbeds of fanaticism andthemselves.
Bottom line is that the fanatics involved, or rather the quite intelligent leaders, of the mobs now running wild, would use any excuse to whip up their crowds. The frenzy has always been there, and is now used by quite unscrupulous people.
The only question is whether these cartoons lanced the boil, or whether things have only started festering.
February 9th, 2006 at 3:33 am
It’s nice to see there are people on the interwebs capable of rational argument.
Murch, I realise there would rarely be presidential candidates that run on a platform of dismantling nukes, but that’s kind of the whole problem with any party system of government, no one person or leader can represent a country of millions of people. Anyway i think i’ll stop before i say anything political.
February 10th, 2006 at 4:22 am
Oh my gawd, you made a drawing of a dane! Now I am offended and must burn Yirmumah t-shirts!
*Sigh*
As a Dane, this comic made me smile. One can only wonder how long this will last though..
