strip: GOOD NEWS!

Good News!

God, I hate those car insurance commercials. I know this one is pretty simple, but hey, sometimes simple IS better. When I was drawing it, the fist made me chuckle as I was coloring and zooming in and out. I was going to have Drew say “Can I still punch you in the mouth?” at the end, but I left it alone…. simplify…. simplify…

The car insurance thing is ridiculous though. Could you imagine your doctor saying “Good news!” and your like “It’s not cancer!?”
…. but he says “yeah, it’s cancer, but i just saved a bunch of money on my…” — They should make a commercial like that. Just because. The “Cave Man” commercials make me laugh though.

Mental Note… I should destroy my TV and stop watching it.

Well, except for LOST. Last night’s episode was one of the best yet. And Mr. Echo is my new favorite cast member. I hope he takes on the mystery monster thing with his bare fists.

I had to say this somewhere. Forgive me for this.

TIM BUCKLEY IS A FUCKING SELL-OUT!

Thanks for not being a fucking sell-out, D.J. You’re a Bill Watterson with a love of the game. Some of those other fucking sell-outs are Jim Davises who like to fucking sell out.

  2. Gilder Says:

honestly, i think the threat of the brick of silence outweighs the simple punch in the mouth. but both executions get the point across, and frankly, i agree with you 100%

  3. Adam Black Says:

    Fuck.

    Sell-out.

    Brick to the mouth.

    (don’t ask. It’s early still…)

  4. The Castro Says:

Oh come on, everyone loves the Gazel one ’cause you deffinitly think it was the real thing until he busts out those Geico slogans. But I can see why your saying that though.

So why is Tim Buckley a sell out, because he’s making his comic into a miniseries for sale?

  5. Neil Says:

I can no longer resist the mini series (after only hearing about it 5 minutes ago), the combination of tim bukley and Ryan Sohmer is entirely too much

    If only i had a credit card….. shit…..

As for THIS comic, I know the feeling, nothing raises the urge to do some vicious channel hopping like car insurance adverts, especially elephant.co.uk and that one with the director who made one good film and then a bunch of shit ones….. must remember his name so i can curse him out loud without sounding like im cursing at everyone in ear shot

  6. Tom Brazelton Says:

I’m also not understanding why Tim is a sell out for doing the animated series. I think most creators would love to see their work translated into another medium.

  7. Tirade Says:

Yeah, I saw the little trailer and first thing I thought was, “Awesome.” It’s not like he’s some starving artist with a deep point to get across… he’s a guy who draws funy comics. And if he can get them translated to another medium (especially if they end up looking that good… ’twas good animation of his characters), then more power to him. If I wasn’t flat (*&%ing broke I’d probably get a membership.

  8. Greg Z. Newcomb Says:

    DJ,

Yes, Mr. Echo absolutely rocks. I don’t care if he takes on the smoke monster thing, but I’d prefer he beat Ana Lucia senseless. Why does that actress insist on being the most annoying, grating bitch character in everything she does?

Boo hoo, he shot your unborn baby, you still suck!

  9. Clay Says:

I don’t think people think he’s a sell-out because he is animating his comic. I think that’s an awesome concept…(although, there are other comics I’d rather see animated first) It’s the $2.99 for a 4 min short. Even though animation takes a lot to make, that’s kind of pricey especially when Lost episodes are available on iTunes for 1.99, and that’s a whole show. But hey, you don’t like it, don’t buy it. I know I won’t.

  10. Kilroy Higgins Says:

Gotta give him some credit though, he’s not backed by a major company the size of CBS (I think. I might be wrong, dont’ take it as gospel.) and he still wants to make a profit. etc. etc.

  11. Murch Says:

Well the money isn’t JUST for the animations. If you don’t get a prescription they cost that, but if you subscribe to his member deal, you get other stuff too, just like Yirmumah does. His is just more expensive since he’s offering animation and all sorts of stuff.

  12. Alex Says:

I dont think the guy is a sell out. When I saw animated series stuff, I got a little worried about it, but Buckley is the writing it himself, so it shouldn’t be to far off from what the comics are. If he had a different writer, as in the case of other comics gone cartoon, there might be some cause for concern. I dont know if I’m going to shell out the money to see it, but I hope it goes well for him.
