Pet Professional meets HBN, meets Yirmumah

Today’s guest spot by Chad Diez, who is currently drawing Pet Professional, one of my favorite webcomics. He;s also a hard working cartoonist like me, and draws a comic called “The Sophisticated Pig” which is written by Wiz Rollins, and he just ended his comic called “Today: the comic”. Check him out, he’s good people.
This week has been a lot of work for me on Hero By Night. I started drawing the actual book out and made my deadline and then some. It always feels really good to meet or beat deadlines. Last week at this time, we found out from the editors that they needed the cover to issue one PRONTO to meet a behind the scenes deadline of sorts- long story short, colorist Jason Embury and myself kicked all sorts of ass to get it done and make it look GREAT. It sort of threw us off of our webcomic schedule just a tad, we want to be more ahead than we are, but we kicked it old school all week and worked long hours to keep the stuff fresh. It would be harder if all of this stuff wasn’t so much fun to work on.
Last night, I was up until 3am penciling part of the opening scene of the book, and lost track of time. Then it was back up at 7:30 am and working all day through.
I took the plunge and treated myself to the Rolls Royce of graphic artists tools…. A Cintiq!
Yup, it’s fancy and I can tell it’s going to kick some major butt. I didn’t really get a chance to draw too much on the screen yet, as I’ve been moving my computer setup around all night, but yeah…. kick….ass.

I think I may try my hand at drawing some Yirmumah strips right on the screen and do some practicing with it.
Anyway– Hero BY Night found something else in the sewers today… go check it out.

DJ, notice how Chad made his Pet Professional all huge and hulking and your Hero By Night all puny and rope-loving? Damn.
Nice stuff, Diez!!

Chad’s pin-up looks dynamite! And, DJ - I thought you liked traditional inking vs. digital inking?
The Cintiq is pretty sweet - you’ll have to let us know what its like after you’ve used it for a while. I’ve been lusting after a Cintiq ever since I first played around with one a few years ago.

There is nothing like the old school…but damn that Cintiq looks sweet. I might procrastinate all I want but the Cintiq will probably get me too. Or I’ll get it…whichever. Arrr!
