Monday 5/7 Briefs and thoughts
For my friends here checking in on me…here’s what’s going down in funky town…
- I’m not saying people who enjoyed Spider-Man 3 are dumb or wrong. I mean, my kids liked it. I just think it could have been much better. I mean, why even setup that whole “JJ’s son is an astronaut” thing last time, and then not use that as a way to bring Venom from outerspace. I mean, c’mon!!?? Sam Raimi is still completely awesome, I’m a huge Sam fan, but I get the feeling that he was pressured into packing too much into one film. He’s said before in the past that Ari Arad pushed him to put Venom in “for the fans” but they should have devoted a whole movie to just that and waited until Spider-Man 4 maybe? I don’t know, there are a ton of things that could have easily made it better storywise is all I’m saying. The story sucked! Where’s the beef??? I kept laughing at the Emo-Spiderman moments thanks to the old strips at Cartridge Comics that pretty much predicted that nightmare! Kudos to them… go see for yourself!
- I’m working hard, or at least trying to work very hard on issue 4 of Hero By Night. It’s all coming together nicely. I encourage people who have not yet done so, to read it for free online, right this very instant!
- Still fielding many e-mail questions about the Comic Book Challenge 2, which is to be expected. I don’t mind helping out or answering any questions at all. I’m excited about this years contest and being involved and I’m encouraging as many creators as possible to take their shot at it. www.comicbookchallenge.com is the link.
- I still get annoyed by people who say I “signed away” the rights to Hero By Night, when in fact, I “SOLD” them away. Big difference. I don’t care about people harping on my deals because I know it was a great one! But I do care about some worry-warts trying to scare other creators away by yammering on about how this is a bad deal when it is absolutely not a bad deal at all. In my own research and in speaking with many professional comic creators, I actually have one of the best deals out there. Much better than if I would have created Hero By Night at Marvel or DC, etc. So, please… don’t be discouraged, and if you have any questions about that or fears, I’m more than happy to ease your mind.
- Yirmumah is still on indefinite hiatus until I dot my i’s and cross my t’s with the HBN project. Who knows what it will morph into here soon. But thanks for supporting all of my work here and elsewhere. It was really funny to sell out of the little stash of leftover Yirmumah books I had during the Pittsburgh show. I haven’t forgotten about Yirmumah or llamas. I’ve actually been spending my free time enjoying my free time and not loading it with more work, and that feels nice.
- My fair queen, Calypso and I will be officially celebrating our 10th wedding anniversary on the 9th. Wow, 10 years of marriage?! It’s still GASTASTIC! — We’re still making plans, but have sort of a co-gift to each other sitting in our driveway.
-Ahem… did I mention Hero By Night?

YOU EFFING SELLOUT.
And by that, I mean my lazy ass didn’t get to the comic book store for a month until Saturday and your second issue was sold out. Congrats on that dude.

Hero By Night=possibly the most original comic idea I’ve seen in a long time. Checking up on it is a ritual for me. You gotta do what you gotta do, though, so don’t listen to those losers who say you sold out or whatever. The comic is still yours as long as you thought it up.
congratulations on the anniversary. Many couples can’t stay together for two years these days, let alone ten. So congratulations on that.
your number eleven fan,
