Mitch Clem calls down the thunder…

Today, Mitch CLem decided to totally bash Neil Young and Canada. Fuck Canada… but Neil Young??? Dude, if we’re talking MUSIC here, Neil Young is a living legend. And he also has inspired countless other great acts… including my favorite, Pearl Jam.

Mitch emailed me to tell me:

“That is all true, you are right, but… Okay, don’t get offended here,
but I think Eddie Vedder is almost single-handedly responsible for the
reason most mainstream rock music sucks now. If it weren’t for Pearl
Jam, we wouldn’t have to put up with Creed and Nickelback now. It’s
true! But I don’t mean to offend, we’re all in the same douche here.”

DUDE! Come on now! Ok, I agree that Neil Young use to make my head hurt with some of his whiney cracky voice… but saying Eddie Vedder is responsible for Creed and Nickelback!? I’d more consider it as Creed and Nickelback are corporation made bands to SOUND like Pearl Jam, since they couldnt get the boys in PJ to do their dirty dances after 1992. Pearl Jam is revolutionizing music right now, and really quietly. They’ve already revolutionized how music is delivered and live bootlegs, which is an amazing thing, and I guess you can say they’re responsible for big bands or pop acts trying the same thing now. Of course! Plus Pearl Jam is a supporter of MANY cool indy bands, and often takes them on tour– they ARE about the music.

Can anyone name Eddie Vedders FAVORITE band??? FUGAZI. Enough said. Which explains a lot when you think about it.

You suck, Mitch Clem. And you’ve hurt my douchey feelings. :) Watch out for Canadian Ninjas dude!

I often wonder why I haven’t taken the time to replace my truck’s antenna, then I remember that there are bands out there like Nickleback (whom I wish a horrible firey death). Maybe we will get lucky and slay the corporate driven douchbags with the internet.

Maybe death is a little strong, but I could certainly see the merit in removal of hands, feet and vocal chords.

You are my hero! I always enjoy knowing that there are people out there that still appreciate Pearl Jam besides myself.

  7. Adam Black Says:

    Oh, for crying out loud.

It wasn’t Eddie Vedder who killed mainstream music. It was equal parts Clear Channel and Kurt “smells like teen buckshot” Cobain.

    It’s that simple. :)

Neil Young is like Ted Nugent without all the crazy. I honestly think Neil Young could kick any rockers ass up and down the block without having to even look at them.

There are some people who you can tell just ‘get it.’ They see through it all and don’t have to wear the costumes or do the double-speak to get through it all. Neil Young is the mold those people are made from.

    damn.

hmm. I feel as though this is one of those accountability things. It’s not Neil Young, Pearl Jam, or anyone else’s fault we have manufactured crap today. The only people who are at fault are the people who put out the manufactured crap: The Record Companies and the Performers who bend over and do what the companies tell them to.

Managers decided to rip off what was popular. Because the originals (Neil Young, etc.) WERE good. It has been proven time and time agian that the more copies you make, the worse the quality gets with each copy. That’s how we got here today.

The Beatles were so revolutionary because “guitar bands were on the way out” and they re-wrote the book on guitar bands. And then when everyone was playing stuff like they were, they changed again, and again. Neil Young and Pearl Jam each did the same thing. They went against what was already out there.

Just two days ago, Mitch was making the statement that Canada hates rock and roll. People are so up in arms about the whole thing! And I’m sitting back at my computer (in Canada), cackling at how easily offended people are.

He took a swing at Neil Young in that post, but don’t you think he’d have done it to any Canadian rocker who’d been mentioned in a good piece of hate mail? Gord Downie, Geddy Lee, doesn’t matter. It’s done for the express purpose of pissing off whoever wrote that letter. Neil Young, though, with a voice like his, has always been an easy target.

Hm, I think I want to listen to some Crazy Horse right now, as a matter of fact.

  11. Jason Oberbichler Says:

Hey, we all know that there’s only ONE country that produces great bands.

    Australia.

    Case closed.

  12. random interloper Says:

odd. and here i was listening to “Fucking up”.
Neil Young original and Pearl Jam covered goodness….

music eliters are good for one thing, at least.

a fucking laugh. and a fuck every so often…they’re warm and squishy inside

  13. Ed Says:

I aggree with ben about accountability, but I would go even further. It is the fault of the people who buy crappy music. Where there is a market, there is someone willing to sell to that market; that’s why capitalism works.

  14. Joshwa Says:

I’m drunk, canadian, a nothingnicetosay (and neil young) fan, and love yirmumah. I just wna tto say…. YEAHHHH!!! (my comment is not applicable to anyhthing by tghe way)

  15. Brian Says:

Pearl Jam came up with live bootlegs? Uhh, you need to check your musical history my friend. Bands have been doing that for ages. Heck, the Dead was allowing people to tape their shows for years before Pearl Jam even formed.

  16. Allison Says:

    GodDAMN I love Pearl Jam

  17. DJ Says:

Brian: No not bootlegs in general, but I mean professionally recorded live bootlegs of their show that you can buy AT the show or immediately after the show and they’re delivered to you about a week after the show, best quality ever. Pearl Jam was the first to set this system up and now other bands are using THE same system, pioneered by Pearl Jam. THAT is a historical music fact.

  18. Dr.Merlin Says:

    PEARL JAM SUCKS.

    just kidding.
Honestly, it isn’t the good artists fault if he is stolen from or imitated.
Same here with Pearl Jam, and it is nothing new.
Stone Temple Pilots was alot like a pearl Jam rip off.
but with what is happening now…Creed and about a thousand others that I don’t care to know the names of…ITS CORPORATIONS, MAN!
THEY ARE TAKING OvER THE WORLD>>>
they market everything to the consumer drones.
they lie to get things done thier way, and make you proud that it was done that way.
right now, Pharmaceutical corporations are planning to take all herbs vitamins and Minerals out of the hands of the public…available only by prescription.
because you hav all been deemed the Great Ignorant Unwashed Masses.
    search out CODEX.
    the MIDNIGHT HOUR APPROACHES!
YOU WILL ALL HAVE BARCODES ON YOUR HEADS IN 10 YEARS AND YOU WILL BE PROUD OF IT!

did nostradamus feel like a mad man too?

  19. krooner Says:

Kind of agree with brian, in that it’s accountablity. People are buying it, so even if you, or me, or whoever, has enough taste to realize it’s crappy half-assed rips of classics, well, people are still buying it. So pointing a finger at ‘the corporations’ or ‘the masses’ or ‘the artists’ isn’t really the right thing, or even applicable. It’s just, generally speaking, every’s fault, from the top of the line company exec, to the bottom line guy who buys a disc at Wal-mart.

But it’s not as bad as it seems. There’s still good music out there, but we’re back to the position we were back when, say, the beetles came around. There is an unimaginable sheer volume of music out there. So, instead of having the good stuff sink or float, you have to know where it is, have to go looking for it. Kind of sucks that it’s just so hard to find, but doesn’t that make it BETTER? That you have to go through just the smallest amount of effort to actually find something that doesn’t make you gag, doesn’t that effor alone redeem the music?

  20. GraphicArtist2k5 Says:

While that may be true, if Pearl Jam had not come out and done the kick ass music that they have done thus far, then we would have NO IDEA about how much of a genious song writer Eddie Vedder really is. Seriously, the complexity of his lyrics is ASTOUNDING at times. Just listen to Corduroy, for example, that song alone is amazing in its lyrical content. I do, however, have one question, WHAT IS EVERYONE’S PROBLEM WITH CREED? What the hell did these guys do to piss everyone off? Get a grip, they were a highly popular rock band, that did some catchy songs. Who gives a flying fuck if some of their songs sounded abit contrived? They’re still WAAAAYYY better than all the cloned boy bands and “pop princesses” out there. But then again, the very same thing can be said for EVERY SINGLE RECORDING ARTIST, period. Why? Because we all have our differing musical tastes, and that’s just how it is. Take me, for example, I don’t like country and most hip hop sucks MAJOR ass, because it’s all nothing but the same old same old stuff, repeated over and over and over and over, and yet NOONE ELSE seems to understand or even see this to be true. Does that make me more right than anyone else, or more enlightened? No it does not, although I do have a more mature taste in music than just the standard top 40 bullshit and nonsense that so many people buy into. My musical taste spans from bands like The Beatles, Yes, Steely Dan, Pearl Jam, Crosby, Stills, and Nash, Coldplay, Stone Temple Pilots, Velvet Revolver, Soundgarden, Jurassic 5, Seal, Dave Matthews, 60’s oldies, Chicago, The Moody Blues, and the list goes on and on and on. So I DO listen to all kinds and genres of music. I’m just very selective about what I listen to, and yes, there are alot of good bands out there, old and new alike.
