The PIMPS come out at night!!!!

First up, I want to mention a new little webcomic collection, INTERACT COMICS. Check out their main site, then check out their forums. It’s, well, frankly, refreshing to see a group of positive cartoonists who aren’t acting like artsy fartsy dickheads and alienating themselves into a world of unending obscurity. If some of those guys in there stick with it, they could EASILY be the NEXT…BIG… UH…. WEBCOMIC??? heh…

Hey, CARTRIDGE COMICS, whom are also advertising with us, are members there. That’s a pretty damn funny comic if I do say so myself. The comic seems to run the gamut of pop-culture and things I loved as a kid and young adult, so yeah, it gets me right there. Also, is it so wrong to want to buy this soup? (see, now if I had been them, I would have been figuring out a way to take the labels off Campbell’s soup cans and replacing them with my own fake labels and selling them! Muhahaha)

Actually, you know what’s odd? I finally figured out that I sort of scan webcomics with kinda like a “PUBLISHER’S” eyes. A part of me wants to put out OTHER books under the Efh-U COMICS label. Just like mine. I mean, I couldn’t guarantee they’d sell. What are some webcomics I would publish as books under the EFH-U COMICS label? Let’s take a look.

BAD SHAPE: He’s on, uh, “holiday” right now. And I usually don’t like weird photoshop comics or stuff that’s undrawn and slapped together, but WIz’s comic writing is what carries it, and it REALLY does meld well. So, finally a little photo/graphic comic done right. If I were a REAL publisher, I’d put the books out in a special size to fit one strip per page, and make neat little coffee books. I’d push them to coffee shops on their own little racks, or contact some people to virally place these around colleges and breakrooms.

Popped Culture: This is one I’d take in a direction just like I did with the original Yirmumahs. I’d hit comics shops and get these into the hands of the hardcore toughguy nerds like myself. The comic again is the kind that runs the pop-culture gamut and would do well around colleges and anywhere bored students or office people lurk.

Cartridge Comics: I’d probably put out a book of their work without even blinking, and I already mentioned why.

In lurking around the INteract, I see a comic I forgot about that would be a good little book as well:

Accidental Obscurity: - Love the name. ANd again, it’s a broad stroke of humor- Even their ad on Interact that says “We Bring the Bitchslaps” — it…speaks…to me. And how many webcomics do you know that shoot 10 foot tall rainbows out of thier 15inch penis? — Ok, maybe this one is a LITTLE “almost there” for my publishers eye, but still–

Man– you know, a dream team of books, that would probably never happen because the creators are way too independent and have their own things going on, but I’d definitely publish these:

San Antonio Rock City: By Mitch Clem. Again, he’s obviously WAY independent and probably too uh, punk rock to allow anyone else to handle publishing his book… and I admire that.

Joe and Monkey: Again, to reiterate, Zach Miller is pretty independent himself and would never do it, but If I were his publisher i would demand he put out a “Adventures of Joe and Monkey” regular comic book or some kind– his big book collection is really nice. While I enjoy the big books, I wont be plunking down too many 20bucks on webcomic collections. I think he’d do a KILLER business with a format like I’m doing with the monthly collections with bonus material. Same goes for Mitch.

DA KENMORE: Brandon Carr is probably one of the best cartoonists I know. He’s ambitious enough to probably want to do his own thing…. but if i could CONTROL HIM WITH MY MIND, I’d be putting out regular Kenmore comic collections as well. After all, there’s no real money to lose if you do it the EFH-U COMICS way!

—- Yeah, I know, the quality of the art levels are all over the place on those, ranging from undrawn all the way to masterfully executed, but ALL are genuinely funny in my eyes and could make a great REGULAR market of underground books. You know, Guerrilla style.

But you know… I’m not a REAL publisher. Least, not yet.

Thanks for showing up to the forums, DJ. Glad to see not being able to act like complete douche-nozzles is a good thing. After talking to quite a few comic artists, I thought it was a requirement.

You can publish me anytime, baby. Rrraaawr.

DJ, I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: You are the coolest guy in webcomics. Seriously, all I can hope is that if my comic ever becomes popular, I’ll do as much as you do for other artists!

  6. Wiz Rollins Says:

My “holiday” has made me the johnny-come-lately on this particular post, but, DJ, thanks for the props. You really do do a ton for other creators. You deserve the success you’ve got and, well… I love you.

Yes. In a very sexual way.
