Honest Reviews

June 23rd, 2007

I’ve been pretty humbled by all the great reviews Hero By Night has received. I’ve never actually seen a bad one ripping it apart or anything like that. The closest to that was a review I saw where the reader just said the “cartoony” art wasn’t for him but they still liked the story.

Today, via the magic of “Google Alerts” I guess, I found this review that was honest, it started out kind of biting and I was cringing going “oh this is going to be a rough one..” BUT alas, the guy turned around a little and was interested in the outcome. What I liked most about this is, the reviewer points out actual things I should maybe work one in future issues. I like reviews I can agree with and kind of learn something from. When your nose is to the grindstone working deadlines, I might not notice certain things in the overall picture that might seem jarring to some readers. This fellow points out that my characters can go from menacing looking to big grins in one scene. “Emotional continuity”– I gotta work on that!

Also, on the overly worded dialogue of the first issue, or in some parts, I agree as well. I really started trimming the fat out of scripts as we went. With the ongoing series I think it will be even better with the plans we have for that.. but I can’t announce anything yet.

Alright… nice day out… Summer is calling! My son probably wants to play football so I’d better run and do that. Enjoy your weekend.
