Here We Go Steelers! Superbowl XL!

Just as I’ve correctly picked that last two playoff games, I can tell you with confidence that the Pittsburgh Steelers will win Superbowl XL. If you don’t know why, you probably have to watch this year’s Superbowl.
Interesting thing I learned today… did you know that broadcasters aren’t allowed to say SUPERBOWL, unless it’s a sanctioned/licensed commercial for the Superbowl or someone who’s paid to use the name “SUPERBOWL”? This is why you hear so many commercials on TV and the radio that say “THE BIG GAME” — “Are you ready for the BIG GAME?” — I think that’s kinda funny. Once you’re aware of that, everytime you hear it you go– OHHHHHhhh….
And now for OUR sponsors. Enjoy the BIG GAME!

The MJ Morning Show did the Egg in the Microwave test and the Seahawks won. Let’s hope they’re wrong.

I don’t know anything about football.
But, I do know the ONLY thing that would’ve made today’s strip better… theme music.
Like the stuff they used to play during those old school football recap shows on ABC back in the day.
Props, DJ.

About a year ago, one of the local radio DJ’s on the alternative rock station mentioned the rule. Pretty interesting rule, if pointless. The one I’ve always found interesting is that in beer commercials, the actual consumption of beer or any other alcoholic drink is prohibited from being shown. So while you’re watching THE BIG GAME, notice that nobody actually takes a drink from their smooth-tasting, beechwood aged, made from premium hops, sweet, sweet beer.
Mmmmmm, beer…

It’s gonna be an amazing game. The Steelers going up against one of the 2 teams who had/have a genuine chance of stopping them in the post season.
The teams match up well and it could go anyway.
I’m not sure how I want it to go. On the one hand, I do want the AFC team to win.
On the other hand, the Steelers should suffer after the way that Bengals game went. I feel it would’ve been much closer if Palmer hadn’t been taken out so early. 60 yards on his first and only pass?
Anyway. SUCCESS TO WHOEVER!

The Steelers Suffered last year when they got beat by the Patriots and missed out on a Superbowl then… so I think it’s their year to take it for sure.
I’m watching the NFL network, and I gotta tell you , there’s not much I’m seeing from the Hawks that the Steelers cant grind down…

Problem with the Steelers is that they’re a lot more predictable than most people seem to think.
Sure, they have the odd gimmick play but mostly the numbers show you could guess their next play at least 90% of the time. Like Roethlisburgers predilection to throw on 3rd downs. During the playoffs at least I think every third down has been a throw.
If the Hawks defence play it by the numbers the Steelers could be stopped early.
And from what I’ve seen the Steelers can be caught off balance quite easily if one or two plays go against them, Kitna’s no huddle offence really shook them at times.

The problem with thinking the Steelers are predicatble– well, they are in certain situations, but it’s too late for the other team then. The Steelers LOVE to eat the clock, especialy when they’re ahead.
The Broncos thought the same thing, about the Steelers being predictable, and how they would have no passing game against them and rely on shutting down the running game…. BUT the Steelers came out throwing and creamed Denver.
The key to Sunday’s game for the Steelers will be aggression. You’re going to see them playing FULL FORCE against the Seahawks, this Steeler team the past two seasons (last year 15-1) is a much different Steeler team than the last decade— *thank god* –
But yeah man, 15 and 1 last year, probably would have been about the same this year if it wasn’t for Maddox’s losses and Ben being out a couple games. Writing the Steelers off saying they only have a few trick plays here and there… BAH– take a look at the actual numbers and you’ll see this is a whole different Steel City monster. And it’s about damn time!

Yeah, but it’s the superbowl. You’ve got to believe the Seahawks are going to come to the game all guns firing too. And being the underdog in this situations going to fuel the fire even more.
The problem with eating the clock is that, if you’re running you still have to convert for the first down. Seattle’s defence is also a different monster than last year, they’ve got something like the 3rd best defence against the run with an average just under 4 yards average, and I can’t see that number rising much if the Steelers do play a run heavy game late on to run the clock. Tatupu is playing great on defence and is going to be an important factor in the outcome of the game.
Then I suppose it’d be fair to say we COULD see a few draws to try and throw off the Seahawks, but that won’t work if they keep pushing it.
Big Ben is gonna come out swinging, big throws and big plays are gonna make this a great game and if they do take charge early, it’s going the Steelers way for sure. An early lead would be the best advantage you can give the Steelers, but if they’re slow to start, as they can be the Seahawks are going to be in prime position to take the win.
In the end it’s all going to come down to how well each team plays, I can’t see either team rolling over and dieing out there on the field.

There’s no doubt, this will be a GOOD superbowl for a change. The past two years have been kinda lackluster it seems.

Great comic.
Yeah, I have heard that before about using the ‘Super Bowl’ name, and you’re right, it makes listening to the ‘Big Game’ commercials is different after learning the facts.
I am actually a big fan of both teams (Steelers number 1 though), so it’s finally a relief to watch a Super Bowl with teams I like. Last years Eagles-Patriots was the absolute worst in terms of teams I loathe.
Anywho, I can’t see how the Seahawks can beat us, but then, the Steelers have had brain-farts in big games in the past. The only way we lose is if we beat ourselves. God, I hope we win. I can’t wait to finally be involved in a ‘Sports Championship Riot’!!!
GO STEELERS!!!!

I wonder how long it will be before DJ becomes an official spokesman of Adult Diapers. You should buy a box and draw Drew on each one and sell them off.

It’d certainly make them easier to find. I ran out, and as a result I’m gonna have to move my tv and fridge into the toilet.
