Fallout from Yesterday’s Immigration ranting inside–
I actually got some hatemail yesterday from someone offended I called the Minutemen on the border “rednecks”— Hey, sorry about that. It seems a little REDNECK HE-MAN to me to stand along the borders with guns and crap. Ugh. I’m willing to lay down ten bucks that some of the same people cruising around looking to shoot at illegal aliens also secretly (or not so secretly) hate black people. It all reeks of MASS ignorance to me. Those people lining up at the borders should maybe think about lining up outside of corporations or people controlling this like puppet masters. Psuedo Patriots. The same people probably think Bush is a fighter pilot because he posed in a flight suit.
On the other hand, I got a nice email from an illegal immigrant who explained where he/she was coming from. I’d like to clarify something– I said this:
“”Because, these folks don’t really want to be Americans, they want the cash and they don’t mind living meagerly”
I didn’t mean to paint every illegal immigrant with such a broad stroke like that. OF COURSE there are those who REALLY REALLY want to be documented Americans, pay taxes, the whole shebang. I was meaning most of the illegal immigrants that I happen to know of who never even attempt to apply or like living under the radar, paid under the table. It’s much easier, and safer for them that way. They don’t want to risk telling anyone. It’s the type that most people think of in America when “illegal alien” is brought up. It’s the kind that gets all the shitheadd rednecks all worked up and manning the borders like freaks.
I get the feeling this will all blow over again and be swept under the carpet by something else political that will pop up. Such a messy political thing, isn’t it? It’s a shame.

I’ve been meaning to tell you guys this - every frickin’ morning after I get out of the shower, and I use a Q-Tip to get the water out of my ears - every FRICKIN morning, I hear the same words in my head:
“You pack cannons?”
Every morning, I think, “I’m not going to think about it today. I’m just going to clear my head and think about You pack cannons? …. Dammit!”

You know, as someone who will shortly be an immigrant and someone who is going about it the legal way, I can sympathise with those who just flit into the country to try and make a better life for themselves and their families.
While I’m not going anywhere simply to make a few bucks to send home, trying to even get resident alien status is a bitch. I’m buried under miles of paperwork, I have to answer questions I don’t yet know the answers to and for fuckssake I’m going somewhere they speak my native language. I don’t necessarily agree with people “slipping under” the radar, but I certainly see it’s allure. And if I were a little more duplicitious, I might do the same thing.

It seems to be getting a lot of attention on morning terrestrial radio shows to. It’s been a topic on Man Cow’s Morning Madhouse for like a week [In the 10 minutes I drive to work I catch it]. (I live in knoxville we get either that or John Boy and Billy, which is just about Nascar, *shudder*)
A government needs to take a strong stand one way or the other. Too much time and effort spent dicking around. It’s like going to war and sitcking your head out trying to save the enemy the trouble of having to aim. “We’re thinking about taking a stance but i dunno we don’t want to offend anybody now do we?” Someone will always be offended you can’t please everybody yaddayaddayaddda

hmmm rednecks=crazy? nuh-uh. rofl. I live in very rural based area myself. I grew up on a farm, went to a high school with my graduating class of a big fat 70 people. Now then….what work did that town offer people? hmmmm oh yeah Tyson’s chicken plants was the only game in town. Well after i graduated, a few years later the town grew insanely with illegals (and yes they are almost all exclusively illegals..last INS bust took 400). To give you an idea, the ‘home’ headquarters for tysons, Springdale, AR. Guess how much the population of that town grew since the last census? They had a special census recently because they knew they had more people than before and needed fair money to support that. 2k you say? hmmm nope, closer to 20,000 more people than since the previous census. Majority of them were illegal, but the census for obvious reasons doesn’t ask that. The jobs that most work are Tyson’s, construction, and restaurant work. I agree with you DJ, they need to be Biotch smacking the companies hiring illegals, though I sincerely doubt they will. At the same time, i can see why you would come here illegally. Many work for a year or two and go home for a year and live like kings. If you or I could go to say Canada for undocumented jobs for say $80k a year in our money, but for a pittance in canadian money…well we’d be flocking there like freaks. as a last note, i’m more scared of rednecks on meth than illegal mexicans and/or terrorists. This issue won’t be solved by ninnies in washington no matter how bloated their ego’s get. I’ve yet to see how they will realistically ‘enforce’ this idea they’re pushing at the moment. >.>;
