Guy who cursed out Cheney, Arrested!
Wow– after the media left, Cheney sent some M16 toting MPs to find the guy– they did and detained him– See full article here. Wow, so much for freedom of speech, huh? hahahah
The guy lost everything, and he videotaped the whole thing which is now available on ebay so he can raise money for his family– see auction here.
Like Bob says… we’re not a FREE country– we’re just a “free’r” country than most.

Yeah that’s complete bullshit!

wooooow
September 10th, 2005 at 4:47 am
I will echo Bob’s sentiments.. We’re just free’r than most..
I once spent 30 minutes waiting to cross an intersection ’cause then VP Al Gore was in town and wanted to get to the airport real fast..
Not like he had to catch a commercial flight or anything.. The plane wasn’t leaving without him.. But cops cut off a main thouroghfare for 30 minutes waiting for that asshat to drive down the street..
And all the “little people” that aren’t important, and don’t count, got home for dinner 30 minutes late..
F**K YOU, Mr. Gore..

Whoa. For a guy called Dick he sure is a total pussy. I hope his feelings got really hurt, the tool.
September 10th, 2005 at 5:34 am
heh…we’re not even a Free’r than most country…we just seem like it…there’s so much going around lately that in truth we have very little freedom…we just dont realize it yet. The government gives us a few that seem major…those take everyones attention away from the millions of minor freedoms we loose in exchange.
example…it’s illegal to spit on the ground within 1 1/2 feet of a cop.
September 10th, 2005 at 6:38 am
I would not call you freer than most. Maybe you would get arrested for that in china, but not in most countries. Freer than other dictatorships ill give you that.
September 10th, 2005 at 7:37 am
Wow that sucks, someone once lobbed (threw) an egg at John Prescott (The British Deputy Primeminister, important job here folks) and all he got in return was a right hook from the right honourable Mr Prescott himself.
To be honest I agree with Evan, compared to dictatorships you are free. Compared to other democracys you’re getting shafted on a regular basis.
Wong, I can understand why it’s illegal to spit that close to a cop, it’s to stop people spitting ON the cop. The guys have a crappy enough time as it is without people being able to spit on them and not, legally, being able to do anything back.

That guy should have been arrested for being a dumbass…really. He had a chance to talk to the VP in mature and poignant way and instead opted for a REAL intelligent response…Go Fuck Yourself…
Come on! How the hell is anyone going to take him or “his cause” seriously? He should have spoken to the VP and asked questions and done it in a respectable manner and had come across as a strong voice for hurricane victims…hell, hit him hard and back him into a corner for all I care! Christ, if I ever got the chance to go face to face with someone who I believed was ruining the country, I’d have something more intelligent to say than that.
September 10th, 2005 at 10:02 am
They’re not ruining the country though, as they are just the puppets that appear to be ruining the country. Also, there are no countries, as the vast majority of the world is run by a small group of people.

I doubt he’d have had a chance to talk to the VP seriously. It wasn’t the interviewer, it was just some random guy walking by. You think if he’d yelled, “Mr. Cheney, dear sir, might I have a word…?” it would have gotten the VP’s attention any more? I doubt it.
And hey, don’t forget…Cheney’s the guy who, on the senate floor, told Senator Patrick Leahy, to fuck himself last year. Sounds like our hurricane heckler WAS trying to relate to Cheney on his own level.

Oops…that point’d already been made in the article.

If anyone actually read the story in the link I posted, the guy tells his story, of exactly WHY he said it. He was taking Cheney’s own words and giving them back to him, and he was frustrated he lost his home. I’m sure no other words could really intelligibly come to mind when you’ve lost everything and here’s this world leader coming through your wreckage for a fucking photo-op, what, TWELVE DAYS LATER!?! — Yeah, “Fuck you” would be on the top of my short list of things to say to anyone cruising in for that.
September 10th, 2005 at 11:49 am
Agreed… Cheney’s own public words were being thrown back at him. He certainly wasn’t arrested and detained for 20 minutes, though….
As for Drammach’s comments… check this out: http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2005/9/5/183618/3893
Compare it to:

I thought it was rather poignant, myself.

Keep in mind this was an area that had been devestated, in which police, fire, paramedics and the military had been fired upon and in which tensions ran high. For him to have made that comment out of the blue with all that had happened, if you were the vice presidents security staff you would be worried that there is a strong chance the man try to do more than simply yell an obscenity and walk away correct? Also, the story linked to calls national guard troops “goons” and quite frankly it shows his (The authors) utter contempt for the government and for those who are risking their asses to help.
Hell, what do I know though right, I’m only a country ass redneck.
September 10th, 2005 at 3:00 pm
Uhm… If you actually read the article you’ll notice he WASN’T ARRESTED.
The MPs did get his name and information though…
I’m in no way pro-Bush or Cheney, but come on! Demagoguery on either side is just horrible.
September 10th, 2005 at 3:17 pm
If they put you in handcuffs and detain you, you’re under arrest. They shouldn’t have put him in handcuffs at all. That was ridiculous.
September 10th, 2005 at 6:54 pm
Now John Prescott is a real man not scared to fight his own battles.
September 10th, 2005 at 7:09 pm
right on orlandu
September 10th, 2005 at 10:17 pm
Uhhh… I don’t really think it’s an issue of whether or not he was swearing at the VP or being immature; it seems more to me an issue of freedom of speech. He shouldn’t even have been hassled!
Also: consider that I am extremely drunk, so completely disregard this post if wanted
September 10th, 2005 at 10:30 pm
I totally agree with you Evil Bob. It’s definitely an issue of freedom of speech. I mean, it’s not like he was threatening Cheney. He was just simply stating how he felt.

The eBay link is wrong, it’s actually:

September 11th, 2005 at 4:18 pm
yeah it is an issue of freedom of speech…however take some time to remember that the area was under Martial law at the time…you know what that means? it means anything not allowed under military rules is illegal. He is legally able to be arrested because such an exclamation can be considered an indirect threat that needs to be nuetralized.
September 11th, 2005 at 11:50 pm
Relax, this ain’t 1984. The guy has freedom of speech, yes, but he COULD have been a wacko getting ready to do something dangerous. His behavior was odd, an d the Secret Service has to check out potential threats. It’s not like they put the guy in jail or anything.
September 12th, 2005 at 9:38 am
If they were worried about danger to Mr. Cheney, they would have gone after him right away. They waited till the cameras were gone, he had gone home, there was clearly no threat whatsoever, the incident was all over, and *then* went to town on him. That aint’ cool, kids.
Don’t defend the goons.
