Groundhog’s Day
Woo! Pennsylvania’s own little dumb holiday! I actually joked with my wife about taking the kids off school for the day and going to Punxatawney for all the weird festivities…. but she looked at me like I was retarded.
Hey, listen up. Thanks to everyone that’s ordered up the new book. RAWK! I can’t reply to everyone individually, but know that I’m saying– THANKS, YOU ROCK! , since you ordered up the book. Again, if you haven’t, you’re missing out, take out your magic plastic cards and purchase a copy for yourself.
I’m debating doing the Pittsburgh Comicon this year. It is practically in my backyard, but i have mixed feelings about it. By then though, I’ll have three full color issues available and some other stuff out, so it’s kinda worth going to just to sell some stuff, meet some locals and pimp the site a bit. I’ve had this idea for some time to do something unique with the space at a show, that 10×10 corner spot, but ditch the tables and have sort of a mini tiki bar setup going on there. Possibly a couch to chill on, maybe a coffee table with the new merchandise on it… We also have this keen tiki fabric I thought about making a frame and building it up as a backdrop— maybe toss in my old black drafting table….. sort of a place to chill and hang for a minute, gather your thoughts and possibly take some Yirmumah love with you. Then I think that might be tacky too. I know the annoying idiots at shows, and i don’t want to be those people at all. I just want a chill little spot to hang in for three days if I do it. Heck, it probably would be easier to just decorate the table setups they already have… I’m still on the fence about this though. Because, generally, I’ve grown to hate comicons a bit.
Ok.. gotta run– I have literally a TON of work on my plate. First, more strips, of course. I have a 17 caricature order that came in (whew!) , 1 single caricature ahead of that, and my backup for the Dark Horse comic, “Archenemies #2″ to get done by the end of the weekend too— I have a new thing for Cracked Magazine to ink up and some backup stuff for the next issue of Yirmumah monthy…. I need two of me. I just want to let you all know, I’m not slacking here!!! All of that, and yet I know there’s something I’m forgeting somewhere.
Weird. Suddenly I’m a working cartoonist again.
How the hell did that happen?

I kind of wish we had a sort of wierd or quirky holiday like groundhog’s day here in Australia. Instead, they just start selling easter bunnies and other horrible chocolatey depressants at the end of January

DJ, you have to do the tiki bar chill out set up for the Pittsburgh Con. I would even try to come out from CT. for that. It is original, and how can you be annoying if you just have a place for people to hang out and be cool. Well, not everyone can be cool. Perhaps you can put up the velvet ropes…

Dude, do the con.
You were probably one of the best parts of the con, and made me realize how much fun it can be to visit the small press section. As long as you aren’t yelling and screaming about offering up sacrifices every hour, like the jerks at some other table *Cough* Jeresy Devil Guys* Cough* you won’t be one of “those guys.”

Man, I didn’t even know Punxsutawney was a real place until the other day. I thought it was just someplace they made up for that Bill Murray movie, but based on a real place.

Yes, Punxsutawney is real. M wife was born and raised there. The whole city is like some weird groundhog worshiping cult. But the Groundhog’s day fun that is pictured in the movie doesn’t really happen. It actually takes place in feild about a mile outside of town. After the movie, there was a big boom, and lots of drunken college kids and everyone stood out in the cold all night drinking beer and having weird Groundhog Tailgate parties, but it has calmed down a little bit.

Do the con, bro. It would be a great opportunity to get out there and make some cash. Have a stack of bricks and a stack of comics on your table, bring whatever Cobra shirts you have left, etc, you could clean up pretty nicely.

You must have picked up a February 2nd “cat vibe.” My cat Boo, who is an aptly named chickenshit, ate his breakfast then promptly threw up. Either he saw his shadow, and that scared him, or the sound of the toaster popping up did the trick.
The comic rocks…gonna get me one of those books as soon as I pay off my magic plastic card in a few days.
