Friendly Hills

Friendly Hills

Why are retirement homes always called something HAPPY and positive sounding, but they’re pretty much places you go to die in. I guess it gives some sort of false comfort. I dislike rest homes very much, but that’s a whole other matter.

My copy of MAKING COMICS by Scott McCloud arrived on Saturday. Only got through the first chapter, but I can already say I’d recommend it to other creators, whatever skill level you’re at, I think it will help you out a whole bunch. It’s got a cover price of $22.95 in bookstores, but you can get it on line for $15.61 at Amazon. LINK

Definitely agree with you, DJ - Making Comics arrived at my place on Saturday too (from Amazon, no less), and from the first chapter I’ve read - it’s the must-have book for ANY aspiring cartoonist. BTW, I’m really enjoying the origin story… fantastic work, sir!

That little girl is so cute, she should be saying, “Fuck!”

  3. Eddie Says:

She’ll be saying and doing “Fuck” in several years. It’s too early for that now.

Death doesn’t have to be a morbid, or even unwelcome, event if you’re prepared for it. Many people reach a point where have come to terms with what will happen, even awaiting it with anticipation. Especially if the person is ill, but even if they are healthy, for some people death is just the end of one journey and the start of a much greater one.

Noting that, the answer to your question lies in the name of the building itself. It’s intended as a place for people to peacefully spend their remaining days, away from the frequently difficult and stressful atmosphere that trying to live on your own as you get older can provide (again, especially if you have medical problems).
