For Dad.

So, there you go. That’s the end of the first chapter of ORIGIN. Special little thing coming tomorrow, and next week I think I might do random things for a week as a little breather– but then jump into CHAPTER TWO. You can always recap and start from the first page HERE.
Now that the whole chapter is wrapped, pages 1-31, what do you folks think? Drop a comment like it’s hot.
OH! And welcome up new sponsor, Journey to Mt. Moriah — there are some sponsor spots open. I don’t have time right now to get ahold of everyone when your sponsorship is up to renew, so you might want to look into the subscription recurring thing if you’re looking to renew or do multiple months. Still only 10 bucks a month!

A pretty noble effort so far DJ. It dragged in bits, but also had some very strong strips. I fear slightly that the amount of time you put into different portions of the history would need to be fleshed out and adjusted significantly for it to translate well to a book form without coming off choppy, but as a daily strip, it works well enough. Especially if it’s your first stab at a more serious themed strip, the quality is admirable (and if it’s not, I apologize for my lack of Coffman history knowledge). The Daily Grind is likely looking on with more respect than they did before, if for nothing else, than the risk you’re taking in possibly alienating your existing fanbase for the sake of artistic growth. Fie! I say bravo!

I thought it was pretty damned awesome. It inspired me to post about it on my comic’s site a few days back. The gist of that was that I couldn’t believe people weren’t talking about this. Here you go departing from your normal strips and creating something great, with a character we give a damn about, and there hasn’t been much talk about it on any comic site I read.
Hrmph to them, I say.

DJ, this was awesome. Poignant? Possibly. It really made me think though.
Excellent work! Can’t wait for chapter two!

I laughed, I cried, I wet my pants. No, seriously though - it’s been very entertaining and worth the wait to see this.

I’m very impressed, man. Although I sometimes enjoyed your gag strips, Yirmumah was never a comic I read regularly until you started the current storyline. Although gag strips can sometimes fly on the jokes alone, they really need an interesting cast of characters and, more importantly, character development and story arcs to keep the reader’s interest (PvP is a great example of a “gag” strip that hooks the reader by expanding the characters beyond the scope of the jokes alone). This is awesome stuff, dude, and I can’t wait to see the next chapter. A hearty “well done!” from me.

brava! brava! bravissima!!
Since discovering the YirMadness a year or two ago , I’ve always enjoyed your gags ( and associated booting people up the retentive fanny..;), and I was quite curious where you’d take this.
Since I’m no critic of any capacity I’d prefer to express myself in Basic : “Oongawoonga, Me Like.”

What do I think? I think that if he doesn’t get to see the kids I’m going to cry my eyes out. This is just great, great stuff. Keep it up.

Well told and drawn. You and Deacon should be proud, if he should see it. I know your loong blog a while back really explained a lot more about the man.
August 17th, 2006 at 10:30 am
Compelling. Badass. Keep it up, please.

I’m diggin’ it so far. Like I’ve said in the forums: good pacing, good camera work/angles…looks like you’re having a lot of fun taking a break from the 4-panel gag format.
Good story, too. I know something bad’s gonna happen real soon. I can feel it!

Excellent, I look forward to the continuation.

DJ,
Kudos once again on ORIGIN. I’m really enjoying reading about Deacon, a character you’ve made us care about. Looking forward to Chapter 2, Dude!

Awesome. Although, I would agree on a break and do some gags before jumping into Chapter 2..you know you have some good comedy lined up, I know it’s waiting to be used..

Just wanted to say well done on “Origin” and keep up the good work - oh, and give the Llama a slap for me (or does that sound really bad?)…
August 17th, 2006 at 7:29 pm
Yeah, I agree with Remy there. Breaks between compelling story chapers are the best time to do kind of gag strips Yirmumah is already so well known for.

Nice job man!
I’m really enjoying this series - been hanging out every day to catch the new strip; you’ve established a really interesting storyline - keep it up!

This series is the first of your work that I’ve seen -
As a biker and a father, I can tell you that it hits home.
Hard.

Guido– thanks for checking in here, and keep following Deacon’s tale!
That means a lot that I captured something that an actual biker can GET. Or at least take a snapshot of my dad’s feelings and stories that other people can relate to. That’s awesome. Thank you for reading.
