Fire In The Belly

On Monday, things will be changing around here just a bit. I’m shifting away from “gag” funny-ha-ha strips and jumping into a sort of storyline thing. I’ve had several Yirmumah related stories in my head for some time that I want to get out of my head, and now feels like a good time to do it.
I can’t make any promises that they’ll be good, funny, or what have you, but I at least aim to entertain you with them DAILY. And this time when I say DAILY, I’m thinking 7 days a week. I simply have too much to tell, and things will be paced out at my own desire. But don’t worry, I won’t cop out and draw like a leaf falling for two days or some bullshit like that.
How long will this last? As long as I want or feel the need to tell the story. Who knows though, I might drop out of a story to give you a nice swift kick in the nuts gag for a day, or maybe there will be the need for “intermission” type things. I’m really just doing this off the cuff with no set plan, except for the stories I want to tell here. They’ll likely go to dark and twisted places.
Why do this? Well, number one reason is, I want to. The number two reason is, I like these characters, and I want you to know infinitly more about them, where they came from, why they are twisted, tasteless and ultimately, human. We’ll start off with learning a bit more about Drew (who mirrors my own life in bits and pieces) and in order to do that, we’ll need to learn a little more about who made him.
I hope you’ll join us Monday and beyond to check it out and follow along. I fancy the thought that current readers will grow to love the strip and characters even more, and maybe some newer readers will come aboard and be able to understand this chaos and where it comes from a little better. OR, current readers will hate it and demand more senseless chaos right away, and our readership will go directly into the toilet, and we’ll be back to telling stories to 16 loyal fans.
Enjoy your weekend… YIRMUMAH: ORIGIN begins on Monday.

cool stuff bro. Can’t wait for some storyline related stuff. I’ve been too busy to drop in everyday anymore, but I DO catch up every couple days. Amazes me still that you’re pumping this stuff the way you are, and the catalogue of material you’ve got now is REAL impressive. keep it up man!

Yirmumah on the weekends? Finally,I have a reason to look forward to the weekends. I don’t think there is anything DJ could do to make me not like this strip. I still think DJ is in the top 10 of best cartoonists on the net. Dude f’n rocks.

Err, I don’t understand today’s strip. Just “fire in the belly” to do some plot work?

I can’t imagine being able to deliver the ‘gag’ strip kind of format day in and out, but you seem to do it effortlessly and in a routinely hilarious way. Knowing that, I’m really excited to see your work expand into another dimension and format. Regardless of how you do that exactly, as long as you’re writing for yourself and not ‘gving the people what they want’, you’ll do just fine.
Maybe a good promo byline for your next phase could be something like
“We’re Getting Deeper Into Yirmumah.” That’s just gross enough to appease those who need that low-brow humor fix…

Wow, how random and bizarre.
Years back I was the writer/editor/only person who would do it/ for my Karate club’s newsletter. One issue I put in a copy of a Zippy cartoon with him saying “Holy Kazoosis!” because it looked like he was in a horse (straddle) stance.
I see this strip being another such random one that nevertheless gets quoted and copied years later.

[…] D.J. has wanted to get those story-line demons out of his head for some time, and now he’s finally letting them loose on an unsuspecting public. I’m planning on joining Club Yurmumah so I can get all the weekly strips at once, because I’m intrigued into where D.J. is going to take the story. […]
