Dawn of the Dead…
I know I’m not the only one who’s thinking “Zombie” movie when I look at all this chaos in New Orleans…. you know, THANK GOD there aren’t zombies there, armed looters are bad enough. People shooting cops and at rescue copters. WTF?!? Don’t believe me? Here’s a great blog from an IT company that’s right in the thick of things, they have a generator, live webcam, and have taken in some survivors, including an exhausted cop who says it’s just a wild kingdom there:
It is a zoo out there though, make no mistake. It’s the wild kingdom. It’s Lord of the Flies. That doesn’t mean there’s murder on every street corner. But what it does mean is that the rule of law has collapsed, that there is no order, and that property rights cannot and are not being enforced. Anyone who is on the streets is in immediate danger of being robbed and killed. It’s that bad.

Stay safe people.
And for god’s sake, enough of the politics! If there’s a country out there who wants to help or is saying “Well, we offered this, but…” — Hey, dipshits, don’t wait for someone to answer a phone or work out a deal with you… if you want to help, JUST GET THERE! They need it. BAD.

There was a photo on the AP wire a couple of days ago of either Canal Street or Bourbon Street, and it was shot from high up enough that you could see about a block of it…anyway, there were about 15-20 people waist-deep in water walking away from the camera, and the “Dead” movies were the first thing I thought of. It just had that unearthly quality (and, yeah, the looting and the chaos hasn’t helped at all.)

For two days the news in Canada has been “we’ve got Search & Rescue, Disaster Relief, Army Engineers, and Water Purification gear ready to send to New Orleans — we’re just waiting for Washington to say OK.” Our PM spoke to President Bush today so I’ll be be pissed off if I hear that they still haven’t got those people on their way.

Stuart, I’m in T.O., I’ve been reading the same stuff in the papers.
Waiting for the US government to say OK? Sure, let a few more people drown, more property be destroyed.. It’s not like this is an EMERGENCY or anything.
Something about a crisis situation brings out the inner-idiot in all of us.

I’m pissed.
George Bush was on Good Morning America this morning and said the United States could take care of itself and didn’t need help from other coutries.
I saw a woman on TV pleading for people to come and help. People are dying — not from the hurricane, from the poor handling of the aftermath.

Sorry Guy’s but your prez has just confirmed super-idiot status. I thought it was bad over here in South Africa!
The reason that countries can’t just pitch up and help is that afterwards they’d be accused of trying to invade and next thing they know bush is taking thier country as reperations! Stupid Dick!

I think that we, as Americans, can’t ignore any help and fall into that “us and them” mentality. It could lead us to scenario sorta outlined here: http://www.smh.com.au/news/world/the-us-collapses-a-scenario/2005/08/28/1125167552525.html which would be a very bad thing.

over here in good old great britain we’re all really concerned and stuff about the guys in new orleans, on the news we see clips of police men crying and its really horrible. People have even forgoten about the london bombings as there hearts go out to new orleans.
sure america and england are hardly the most friendly countries towards each other, but times like these makes you realise we’re all human and we’re all the same

That truly IS pathetic when we have to wait for our government to say “OK, now you can help these people out”, when all it takes is for us to just DO IT. Fuck what this government says, and when they say it, because they don’t give two shits about any person in this country anyway, that’s appallingly clear to me, and it has been for awhile now. How many hurricanes did Florida get hit by that one year, and were we waiting on the government to say, “OK, we think that they need help now”? What if YOUR family was one of the families that was killed in that hurricane because the government decided that it wasn’t time for any person to take action just yet? Who the fuck are they to say when and how we should take action, when we KNOW that these people need help desperately? Like the old Nike ad campaign said, “Just do it”. That’s all there is to this whole damn thing. If you KNOW that you can be of help to someone, then HELP THEM. What’s the worst that will come of it? Will some government official tap you on your shoulder and tell you to stop helping someone who desperately needs it? Forget about this whole governmental system in this country, and JUST DO IT, because as I said, they don’t care about you anyway. This government does not necessarily have your best interests at heart. If any person hasn’t yet figured it out, the government of this country is EXTREMELY corrupt, and it’s full of people who are extremely corrupt.
