Cobra Shirts have arrived!
Woo hoo… nice. The Cobra shirts and hoodies just came via UPS, so I’m going to start getting you the packages together and mailing them out this week. Our screenprinter is the BOMB. Not only was it fast service, but they did a superb job on the screens and drags on these. I use to work in screenprinting, and I can tell you this is WAY better quality than the places I worked for. Top notch…
Wow, the hoodies look fantastic and are really comfortable.
I only have extras now in XL and XXL if you want t-shirts. If you order this week, it ships this week. Get em while you can, because when they’re gone– THEY GONE! See what we got left on the store page.

Mr. Coffman-
I am writing as a former fan of your work as of today. The reason for my stating that I am a ” former ” fan is that during a conversation with a few artist friends about upcoming artists that we have been watching and taking following of their work, I was informed of and proven the fact that you are nothing more than a premadonna and a total unprofessional that is lacking honesty or integrity. I have been shown googled listings of your name as well as countless listings of DigitalWebbing.com, not to mention other sites where you have openly attacked new artist’s work that was there for showcasing, which as you of all people should know, takes a lot of real nerve to do infront of a body of peers that are known for childishly flaming, which I’m sad to find you are a forum moderator of such a posting outlet.
You state in your blog how you are trying to grow and change the industry by being an example of what professional creators should be but, leave your tracks all over the web bashing people that are asking for your learning advice to help them better their craft as well as attacking businessmen that you don’t even use the service of in calling him a fool because the man you follow from what was it?…angrydogpress or whatever…Steve something…because he and a few others from an outfit called the Small Publishers Association, that a little research has proven them to be the biggest fraud outfit of all in that situation with the printer, First wave.
It is sad to see that you are shallow enough that you would jump on the band wagon of a man that is part of a group that has reportedly ripped off and changed printers due to breaking their contracts/deals with them in over 7 different companies in less than 3 years.
Do your research before you bash on people, if you have to prove yourself so low as to join those flammers in the beginning, which if you are a true professional, you would detatch yourself from association with them because that disorderly conduct is resulting in you becoming the one with the loss of fans in your wake from the sessions of you acting in such a manner.
It’s sad for me because I looked up to you and wondered why you never got anything more professional than your own work and never do any big company freelance. It’s not because you are holding back for your own stuff, is it?
I hope that in the future, you will start to learn to respect your fans, peers and stop burning bridges of possible future associates with dignity and respect, unlike these guys that can’t make it and have to constantly move from printer to printer and publisher to publisher…they need to grow up, really.
In closing, let me know if you ever get something published from a big company. I would love to see some professional level work from you on professional level characters that aren’t your own, just to see if you have the professionalism to actually make it or not.
October 31st, 2005 at 8:25 pm
Uh….wow Dave, maybe you should do your research as well. For, as I remember, DJ has run syndicated newspaper comics, as well as a bundle of other high level work, he just chooses to do his webcomic. Also, did you perhaps think that maybe this little post had no business under a blog listing about T-Shirts and hoodies? Maybe it would be better served as, oh, I don’t know, an email? Or perhaps a post in the forums?
In closing, I would like to lower myself for a little bit of satisfaction and just general catharsis with a resounding “WWWWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA”
October 31st, 2005 at 8:25 pm
Uhhhmmmm…. Let me get this straight.. you just did to me what you accuse me of doing, but you did so anonymously?? Wht not state who you are and where you came from ? That would be a BIG help in rebutting anything you just said.
#1, get your facts from the source, me! You tell me “do your research” — but have you done yours, son??? I have no idea what you’re talking about, I don’t support fraudulant groups, in fact I’m the FIRST person to stand up to people when they’re acting shadey.. That Small PRess Association place, ask the guy running it, I’ve been VERY critical of his past operations… I don’t vouge for things I don’t use. PERIOD. Got that? Let that sink in before I go on.
#2 You go on and link me to places where I’ve “attacked” other peoples works. I’ve been critical of people, MANY people. I’ve been so critical of people I think they wanted to strangle me in the past… but they thank me later. Now I’m going again be critical of you, anonymous stranger, for stupidly coming in on a topic about my shirts arriving and posting this all out of topic.
#3 I’m doing great with my webcomic, and wouldn’t dream of self publishing in comic books again. That’s a losing game. You’re sounding like someone I might have criticized in the past, anonymously lashing out.
#4 I bend over backward to help my friends and colleagues in my field. I am a shrewd professional who is passionate about what I do, primarily cartooning. I’ve dedicated MANY hours to helping other people further themselves with their work, and in doing so, it’s broughten me great rewards. Check out the blog site i just made to help other creators make money with their work online: http://yirmumah.net/make_money
#5, I probably shouldn’t even respond to anonymous asshats posting here, but I’m bored and thought I’d entertain you.
#6 How am I ever to do as you suggest, “let you know” when I have something published by a BIG company? You didn’t leave me any contact info at all, and you don’t say who you are! Don’t be shy! I won’t bite hard. — But seriously, I’ve done work for some BIG clients before, you might just not have been really paying attention. But it’s OK… I still love you, former reader anonymous guy.
#7 For future reference, write this down. I am D.J. Coffman. I am the world’s FIFTH greatest cartoonist of all time, and I’m fine with that. I have the ego the size of barn, and I can strut my stuff because I’ve worked hard on my mad skillz. While I’m sorry to lose readers, I gain hundreds of new ones each day. But c’mon, fagimus, you didn’t REALLY follow my work, or you would have known I’ve been published more than you’ll ever be, “rising comic book star”
Bwhahahahaha….
Good Night, and good luck.
October 31st, 2005 at 9:23 pm
Man, that dude from Sketchbattle just doesn’t let up, does he?
October 31st, 2005 at 9:31 pm
And this is why I keep coming back to Yirmumah.
Awesome comics.
Awesome Artist.
And sometimes, very informative.
October 31st, 2005 at 9:47 pm
Shit, is it April 1st already?
Anyway, am I high or is the angrydogpress thing a dead giveaway? And then there’s the deliberate misunderstandings. I do believe you’ve been Lynched.
October 31st, 2005 at 9:56 pm
Nah, I think this is pretty comic book amatuer community esque…
I would hope if Brian Lynch ever came to mock me, he’d do so deliberately and unanonomously. Or have friends do it from his computer .. hahhaa… but sersiouly, no, this has nothing to do with ANGRY NAKED PAT stuff— there really is a site called Angry Dog Press..
What boggles me is, I’ve actually criticized FirstWave printing and the SPA from time to time. He says I’ve defended them?? Wha?? Weird.
Now, Comixpress, I went ON AND ON about, and the only bad thing with them is the lateness factor.
The IP address does track to Oklahoma City - I THINK. I’m not real sure.
October 31st, 2005 at 9:57 pm
Hey everyone –
I’ve never met D.J., nor have I ever spoken to him. I know him from Blambot and via emails he and I have exchanged regarding my purchase of the insanely cheap and insanely effective ads I run on Yirmumah for my own webcomic, Witchthorn.
I can honestly say that I have learned more from him regarding marketing and promoting my webcomic than from any other source. He seems to be a very generous guy with his advice and information, and seems genuinely interested in helping others do well with their webcomics.
Add that to the fact that Yirmumah is one of the funniest things I encounter every day (I work with a bunch of… uhm… colorful people, but that’s another story) and what’s not to like?

DJ doesn’t talk about the bigger clients he works for because unlike he might have you believe, his ego is kinda puny and weak.
I for one know that he illustrated some fantastic Clifford the Dog stuff about a year ago. I know because I hired him to do it, asked him to keep it quiet and like a kickass person you can trust, he did.
BTW. You can pimp that stuff all want, if you want, now.
October 31st, 2005 at 11:07 pm
Damn, I forgot about that Clifford stuff…
Yeah, I got nothing to prove and I’m pretty content with doing the things I actually WANT to do…..
Like draw Ninjas…..
October 31st, 2005 at 11:17 pm
Really, ninjas are where it’s at.
Anonymous poster.. Thanks, for your enlightening and entertaining post in the most inappropriate area ever.
November 1st, 2005 at 12:38 am
Wow… professional three times in the same sentence… I wonder if he is professional enough to professionalize his professionalism about being professional to professors professedly professing professions. Eight times, ha, I win.
What a twit.
November 1st, 2005 at 12:43 am
this anonymous guy is a douche.
November 1st, 2005 at 1:03 am
DJ-
Okay. Yes, I admit that it should have been in an email, fine, I was wrong there, further proving that hostile posts don’t work for effective, positive results. None the less, the question still remains.
Why would you waste your time and professional integrity bashing on unknown artist that are asking for your advice and help and be a follower on the flammer band wagon ripping people that a. you don’t know and b. you have never directly conducted business with?
If you are so upstanding and well off, why are you wasting your time being a message forum flammer rather than properly using that time, space and energy to further promote your comics?
It simply seems unprofessional that someone that actually has a name in comics would do that when so many look up to you as an upcoming creator. Seriously, thinking about it with you being an artist yourself, of how hard it is to show your work and you slam on them instead of giving them tips and help that they are there for in the first place. Granted, they should have known better to post there if you were acting in that manner. Still, only you can change your responses, as they have given you and others like you the benefit of the doubt that they will get some real feedback instead of drama and lame ass shots at their expense for a quick laugh.
Jack Kirby, Gene Colan, Stan Lee, Gil Kane, Bob Kane, John Romita Sr. These men were and are great creators. That is the list who I would aspire to be in this industry. They had and have integrity and respect of their peers, be it from the newest rookie asking for pointers, to the older guys that came even before they did.
You have a chance that so few of us get. There are so many upcoming creators that havethat same chance and do nothing with it because it’s all about them, where in the old days, it was all about creating the best books possible. That chance is to actually re-open the market to other creators and new blood, to bring new life to the classic comics and to give birth to new creations that the world fan base will love just as much, if not more rather than bashing, slamming and simply acting foolish in making new readers that see those forums thinking that they have possibly found their new fix for comics to turn away , leaving the market with the false impression of it being as dead as they think it is.
” If you ever stop learning and growing, you are dead as an artist. ”
-Whilce Portacio
No matter if we disagree on this point of view, that’s cool but, I have stated my opinion directly to you, ( not in the best manner as previously stated ) , but, still brought it to you rather than leaving you hung out to dry on some hostile message board. I knew that no one would attack you here and I never intended that result. Of course, I never wanted to have your readers bash me either, that’s a given. I wanted to tell you my thoughts on the matter and give you a direct change to respond. So, if you don’t mind, please read what I have written here, think about it on a serious intellectual level. I would really appreciate your response. In my previous posting, I responded out of foolish anger without giving you that chance by asking in a more professional manner myself. I don’t need nor want an enemy, I am new in the industry. I simply would like the answers to the questions above as well as to find if you are planning to become a great artist that I can respect as a future peer or if you will choose to remain merely a good artist that I was once a fan of.
Thanks for responding, bored or not,
Dave-
November 1st, 2005 at 1:30 am
Anonymous Dave, if you would please link me to some place I slammed a newcomer or made flamed someone. Thanks. Seriously, if you know it so well, show us where it is duder. The only thing i can think of would be calling Crashlander a hack over on the Blank Label forums, after Brad G. mocked him…. hmmm…
I see you say your “new” to the industry. Well, lesson #1, get a thicker damn skin. If you think something I said on a message board was harsh, you ought to meet me in person at a comic show and see how I’d break it down for you. Believe me, its better that someone is honest with you than just telling you what you want to hear.
You don’t seem to get, THIS, this right here, isn’t comics books.. And you can see the responses from people I’ve helped out without knowing it, and people I’ve worked for— so, sorry if you feel slighted there, chief, maybe you should start looking at criticism constructively. I mean, why are you wasting YOUR time posting your opinion here? Pretending to be a long time reader that I’ve now lost? Lammmmme.
The only thing i can think of would be calling Crashlander a hack over on the Blank Label forums, after Brad G. mocked him…. hmmm…
I’m REALLY curious about all these threads where you say I’ve flamed people. And I’d LOVE to see your links to the “unfriendly environment forum” where people are talking crap about me, I’d be sure to pop in and maybe give you guys more exposure than you deserve at this point. Do post them or e-mail me the links. And hell, show us a link to your work, your e-mail says “comicstarontherise@hotmail.com” — Maybe you just have a real lot to learn about how comic books actually work as a business…. it’s not all dreamy land.. the reality of it is hard, cold, and there will be people who will stab you right in the back to get ahead of you. It happens EVERY day. Believe it!
Don’t limit yourself., Anonymous Dave, the comic star on the rise.
November 1st, 2005 at 1:36 am
Um…..holy fuck, Dave.
What’s not professional is assuming that DJ cares. I’d just hazard a small guess, that he’s far more focussed on doing his own comic and other pro work well, than caring about you.. What’s not professional is ripping a guy on his own fan site. What’s not professional is, well, your entire attitude.
And, it’s spelled “flaming.” What are you, twelve?
November 1st, 2005 at 1:57 am
Man… I think reading Daves’ messages actually caused me to become dumber… Hopefully natural selection does it’s job and wipes THAT fool from the gene pool.
Heh heh… he thinks he’s a rebel… sad…
November 1st, 2005 at 5:42 am
Does it amuse anyone else that someone who writes/draws something as twisted as Yirmumah does Clifford the Big Red Dog illustrations in their spare time?
Also, are the ninjas you’re drawing totally sweet and awesome DJ?
November 1st, 2005 at 6:23 am
who are the four cartoonists better than you DJ?
November 1st, 2005 at 7:44 am
That dude needs to worry about himself, not other people. Because he clearly has no grip on reality.
Grow up anonymous dave!

I believe Dave is absolutely right in everything he says. We anonymous guys know 95.7% more about this than you do.
This email system is terrible, it won’t let me browse attachments onto my ISP, you should upgrade your page to Outlook.
Who’s this ‘Mr. Coffman’???
I’m cold. So very cold.
Anonymous Steve.
November 1st, 2005 at 10:18 am
wow, I love internet arguments! everyone gets to be retarded for a day! can I throw in my two cents?
DAVE- “Jack Kirby, Gene Colan, Stan Lee, Gil Kane, Bob Kane, John Romita Sr. These men were and are great creators.” Geez Dave, surely you must realize that for every person you find who thinks these guys were and are great, you’ll find two who thin they were dicks. (sorry DJ, even Kirby was a an asshole o someone) That’s the way creative businesses are. someone has to be mean and tell people “no! Bad artist!” from time to time.
I’ve met DJ in person, and he’s a nice guy, honest and up front. I have no doubt that he told some artists that their stuff needs work. And I have no doubt that he may have been a little caustic at times. But if you put it out there to be commented on, you have to take the comments. If you’re gonna cry and quit because some geek with a web comic doesn’t like you, then hell yeah, quit and get your shit out of public view– you obviously weren’t serious about it at all any way. Keep it for your mom to hang on the fridge, she’ll pat you on the ass and say it’s the best ever.
DJ- I feel bad that you have to draw ninja. Do you at least get to draw pirates to kick their pansy asses?
November 1st, 2005 at 10:33 am
Kapoo– Actually, I also DID get to draw a pirate AND a bandito. So all things are great in the world….
Heh…. I’ll be blogging it up when the final word comes down for me to do so.
November 1st, 2005 at 11:07 am
You shouldn’t stop saying harsh things about other artist’s work, as long as it’s honest criticism. You’re not frickin’ Mark Kistler, and if people want to be pros they have to get pissed AND inspired by bad remarks.
I had this professor who told me I was a slacker and I should drop out of my major (junior year). He pissed me off so much I started studying like a madman. He was one of those, ‘nobody is gonna get a 4.0 in my class’ profs, but I managed… fueled by ‘venom’, so to ’spak’.
Anyhow, now he’s like my favorite professor ever, because he inspired me to reach a level I didn’t think I was capable of, all after-school-special like.
So, for every three worthless young punks who up-and-quit because you say their work is bush-league there’s one with actual potential who will be inspired.
Rock On!

When did this place turn into a character assassination courtroom.
naiveté
The state or quality of being inexperienced or unsophisticated.
As in: Dave’s naiveté makes me want to punch kittens.
November 1st, 2005 at 1:07 pm
MMMMmm….Kitten Punch.
Can I have the recipe for my next party?
November 1st, 2005 at 1:32 pm
The only thing I can think of that Anonymous Dave is referring to is the Daily Grind forum.
It’s interesting that he reposts asking for a serious and thought-out answer when you already gave him one, DJ.
Meh. Whatever.

I, however, am getting mine this week!

Kitten Punch

1 punch bowl
1 strainer
1 block of ice
1 blender
1 box of lime sherbert
1 bottle Sierra Mist (yeh it’s like that) or equivalent
1 kitten
1 sprig of mint
Put Ice and Kitten in blender pour in half of Bottle of sierra mist, close top, blend on high for 3 minutes. Strain into the punch bowl. Add sherbert and garnish with mint leaves. Makes enough for 8 servings with a 2L bottle of soda.
