What Would Ben Franklin Do?

Ben Franklin

Pardon me if I talk politics a second…

In a recent USATODAY poll, 4 out 5 Americans are now unhappy with the Iraq War and the President. 67% of soldier’s families now don’t agree that this war is worth the lives of their kids. There’s a growing feeling on the street that George Bush is bullshit, even among some of my Right Wing friends— it’s FINALLY becoming clear to some that this guy has been dropping the ball left and right. We’re approaching a TRILLION dollar price tag to taxpayers for the war….. I mean, they said things like “cakewalk” and “the insurgency is in it’s last days” —- but here we come on the 3 year Anniversary of rolling into Baghdad like a bunch of “liberators”. Wow, GREAT job, guys!

And hey… it’s not a Democrat or Republican thing to me. Hell, where were the leading Democrats? They voted FOR the war. DUHR!!!! Then quickly told us they were against it, uh, kinda…. And WOW, you can’t listen to them NOW. It’s getting around election time. We need to see TRUE colors and have someone standup and say what they believe and stick to it and not back down when someone slings some mud in their eye. EAT THAT MUD! EAT IT! Eat it and smile back at them, unphased.

On a more personal level, I have friends who’ve lost limbs over this shit, and NO, they’re not happy about it. I’d still like to shake their hands and tell them THANK YOU and I’m sorry. I’m sorry they had to sacrifice “for the people” over a bullshit war to help fill rich people’s pockets and play “slight of hand” all day with a political administration. I have a son who’ll be 9. And I saw they have speculated a plan that keep us at war until 2016…. I’ll be damned if our children will grow up to die for George Bush’s bullshit war. It’s not worth ONE death now. On either side… but the bodies keep piling up every day, and it’s…. overwhelming. BUT DON’T WORRY! Watch some “Reality” tv! Everythings going to be… OKAY.

What would Ben Franklin Do?

He’d hold the leaders of the country personally responsible. And not just the President mind you. He’d hold them all responsible. He’d hold the truth to be self evident.

Personally though, I really like that idea of the “Nickel a Kick” program. Can we set that up??? I mean, 4 out of 5 people would be in line.

*sigh* but doesn’t it bother you more that it took 2k+ deaths, trillions of dollars in debt, no bin laden, NSA spying, CIA agent leaks, supreme court appointments, threats of Bird Flu/anthrax/’dirty’ nukes, Oil price surge, and many more that i forget and certainly many more to come; that now people are tired of this retarded butt monkey of doom? I knew it was trouble when I read before GW was elected that he found jesus and got him off the booze. Anytime someone’s past sounds like a christian tv channel movie of the week…i get nervous. add to it that that movie ends with becoming the president and good lord, that’s a better plot than any movie that was at the oscars. Certainly beats out House of Wax. And I hate to tell people “I told you so”, but uh..nah i won’t, NSA is probably listening. oh and I’d definitely spend like $20 at least on the arse kicking event sponsored by Ben.

I’d invest my life savings in “nickel a kick”

Yea having a kid has so incredibly changed my outlook on politics. After my son was born they started in with this whole school to work programs that basically try to target poor kids when they are really young and push them into cheep manufacturing jobs as soon as they turn 18.
That started me thinking “it isn’t just me protecting myself from government, I have to make sure the government doesn’t screw my kid up before he has a chance to make an educated choice”.

It’s fucking scary between teachers wanting to medicate “disruptive boys” and a general additude that if you try to keep social programs away from your kids that they can just go around you.

anyhow I don’t mean to rant.

when you said 10 more years and my son will be 16 maybe 17 at the time. Yea that’s really fucking scary.

  6. Tom Says:

I recently turned 18 and now I receive phone calls and letters from the Selective Service telling me I have to sign up. Its horrifying, I didn’t agree with the war three years ago and now I have that big 5 letter word staring me in the face.

I take it you like the Crunchwrap Supreme? It *is* tasty.

I’ve heard it said that the Bush administration acts in the belief that the Rapture will happen. That includes making sure the stage is set, the players are in place, and everything is prepared for Jesus to return in Israel, as prophesied, and collect all good Christians. The good Christians are the ones in the Bush administration, one presumes.

It’s too bad you didn’t publish this one back in January. Jan 17 would have been his 300th birthday, had he, you know, actually lived that long. God rest his soul.

Also, crunchwrap supreme = muy delicioso.

  9. DJ Says:

Indeed– we share the same birthday.

  10. cappy Says:

MadScott - please don’t lump us teachers in with the gov’t. Bush and the PA legislature have done a good job screwing with education (here in PA) to the point that we can’t do our jobs the way we should and still expect our schools to survive.

And don’t assume that we all want to medicate the kids. I think ADD and ADHD are over-diagonosed and kids are over-medicated because of it.

  11. Greg Z. Newcomb Says:

I remember when GW was given the presidency (to say “elected” isn’t really fair), I thought “Oh, he’ll do four ineffective years, cut taxes for his rich friends, try to nix the separation of church and state, etc.”

Then 9/11/01 fell in his lap, and I still have the e-mail to a friend I wrote that day: “I hope Bush doesn’t use this as an excuse to start meaningless wars instead of tracking down the people responsible.”

    Sigh. I hate being right.

  12. MadScott Says:

cappy - Your right there are good teachers out there. There are also people in government that a good and doing a good job.
My feeling is that we all still need to work harder to stop “the wrong people” from screwing up our schools and our local governments. I’d like to make your job easier I hate the fact that people in government seem to change things just so they can say they did.

Yea I’m generalizing all over, but the fact is we let the government do this to us. We don’t get involved and suddenly stupid laws are in place. Or worse new laws that only reword old laws. That means that as a person of voting age I need to know whos ass to kick first. We need DJ’s nickle a kick expanded to include all the dumbasses who just nod and go “Gosh that’s a lot of words.. it must be good” and then sign off on these bills and programs and everything.

so.. yea to shorten this up.. Yes to a nickle a kick.
Chances are someone will attach a rider bill to it and 60% of the money raised will to to someones pet project that build inner city bird houses.

  13. Tirade Says:

So… what about people with an injured foot? Especially those soldiers with, y’know, blown off limbs. Do they get to use a baseball bat instead or something?
If so, then does my ingrown toenail count as an injury? >: )

  14. Blue Eagle Says:

“Do they get to use a baseball bat instead or something?”

    Anal Pear.

  15. Drammach Says:

I would gladly pay a nickel a kick, and would bring a whole bag of nickels..

And while you’re right about the war being fucked up and all, I think you’re wrong about it’s not being necessary..

It used to be that nations fought wars, and when it was over, and there was a winner and a loser, treaties were signed, and everyone went home..
We “played” by an agreed set of rules..

    Then terrorists came along..
They don’t play by the rules.. They kill people sort of at random, there is no specific target half the time, and they don’t seem to care if they die in the process..
Oh.. and it’s hard to reason with them.. It’s all, “surrender or die” and stuff..
They kill their freinds as well as their enemies, women and children as well as soldiers..

You may object to the war, but I bet you don’t object to the fact it’s happening over in Iraq instead of here in America..
‘Cause then you and your kids and your wife wouldn’t have to wait until your son is 18 and eligible for military service..
You could start worrying right here and now, every time he stepped outside the door..

Ending operations in Iraq won’t stop what is happening..
Even if we do successfully complete the War On Terror, do you seriously believe that’s the end of it?
Peace Everlasting, because You stood up and “made a stand against war” ??

    Get real..
Once this one is over there will be another.. and another.. ad infinitum..
It’s not just Democrats and Republicans, it’s not Bush or Clinton..
It’s not just an Amercan problem, it’s worldwide… Lust for Power, Wealth, Fame..
There will always be someone, somewhere, be it Iran, North Korea, China, Venezuala, Columbia, Zambia, Sudan, Zimbabwe..

This time around, it’s Islamic Militant Terrorism..
