A Real Job…

Today’s comic by Joe Dunn and Brandon J. Calhoune.

Guesty!

As I write this, I’m kinda throbbing in pain. Did I hurt it doing physical work at my new house? Nope. I got out of the van at Wal-Mart. That was it. BAM. Soon as I stepped out, pain in my lower back was CRAZY. I could barely walk. Ages ago, I use to unload trucks at UPS and I got pinned in a truck by some large axial looking thing, and ever since, maybe once every few years that same pain kicks in. Out of nowhere. I never sued or anything back then, because I’m not a wuss, and hey, the doctors UPS sent me to all just sort of slapped me on the shoulder and told me to man up and take some advil. And so it’s went.

Still, it doesn’t change the fact that it hurts like a motherfucker.

Also as I write this, I’ve filled all my deadlines for this week with HBN… of course I’ll be trying to get ahead a little on next weeks deadlines and webcomics for that. I never really ever took a break after the trip to San Diego… it’s been full steam and all pistons behind the scenes. I do kinda feel like I’ve let Yirmumah down a little bit, and it’s why behind the scenes I’ve been working with a really funny mothercrunker who’s come up with some amazingly crude and YIrmumah flavorful strips to enjoy. It’s been almost as painful as my back to see the funny come in and not have time to draw it up. A different type of painful, but yeah. This is almost a sickness, an obsession with drawing comics, pushing myself as a cartoonist.

Wiz wrote some great stuff that’s kind of time sensitive, and I was going to have Brandon Carr draw them up and he volunteered to fill in as Yirmumah artist for awhile, which was awesome and would have worked out fantastically…. but now here’s my sickness creeping in.

I see all this stuff I have to do. Beyond my artwork duties on Hero By Night, which I’m having a really fun time with, in case you didn’t know, I’m right now in the middle of drawing issue one of the print issue, also while producing a pretty tight webcomic prequel sort of thing which will totally be rewarding to readers of the book as well— but beyond all that, we just got this new house! And it needs some work done there, minor stuff like painting, new carpet, etc…. Instead of blowing off Wiz’s scripts and having someone else draw them, I’m going to man up and DO them. You can expect the first one Monday. I’ll also be going and painting at least one room in the new house, and THEN coming home and working on Hero By Night goodness until the wee hours of Friday night. All with a bummed out, pain in the back.

Now, I won’t be killing myself or anything, don’t worry– It’s just…. slacking and procrastination are done. They’ve BEEN done. I hope it’s inspirational to a lot of you out there, that when you have a stack of work, beyond work that normal humans could do, when some sort of emotional baggage is strangling you, summon your own Drew Price within… DO IT. Man up.

Anyways.. the best webcomic ever, and which also totally rules your pathetic little webcomics, will return in it’s glory on Monday….

I will now go to radio silence for the weekend.

Pssst… New Hero By Night today. Enjoy it, won’t you.

Joe’s style puts me to shame…I’m glad my writing for this one turned out to be worth his art. I got a couple good punches in there. ;)
